Hello,

I have a Goodridge braided brake hose kit for Mini 84+, bought in 2018. The Goodridge reference is "ZZAA0180-015" and "C-AJJ4027B" at Minispares. From what I understand, it's a very popular kit, so if there was a problem, someone would have probably alerted us.

The kit is for front and rear brakes and also the verto clutch, so it's composed of 5 hoses.

My Mini is a '99 Rover MPI.

I have a few questions :

  1. With the kit, I have 4 copper washers: 2 large and 2 small. What are they for? Is it to replace the two at the front right brake's banjo and the two at the clutch's banjo? Or should I use them on the front calipers side? If so, which ones (small or large), they all seems too big…
  2. If I use 2 of the washers for the calipers, what the two others are for?
  3. The Goodridge rear hoses are 15cm long, shoulder to shoulder. I have read here, that they may be too short and maybe should be 21cm long. Is there a problem? As I am already fighting with the front hoses, I still haven't got a chance to check the rear, but I prefer to ask in advance :-)
  4. To install the hose on the front right, should I first tighten the caliper side of the hose, or should I fix the hose at the subframe? I think it would be easier to fix it on the caliper, but if someone as experience whith it, I would appreciate some help :-)

Is there a definitive guide somewhere for this brake hose kit? In the past I have installed braided brake hoses to a scooter and a motorcycle without trouble: everything was straightforward. But this time it's more complicated, and not accessible at all :-)

Best Regards,

Olivier

Two washers for the banjo and one each for the calipers.

length should be fine on the rear as they only go a# far as the bracket on the rear arm.

The big / small washers are to suit the Banjo Bolts (where fitted). The big one goes under the Head of the Banjo Bolt and the small one goes between the Banjo and the end of the Hose.

Thanks @nicklouse for your help! :-)

But looking at the diagrams, there is two washers of different sizes for the connecting banjo of the brakes (items 19 and 20 here ) and also two washers of different sizes for the clutch hose banjo (items 35 and 36 here ).

And as you can see on Minispares, the small washers for both banjo are the same (233220A) and the large ones are also the same reference (3H550).

So, that would mean the wahsers for the calipers are missing? And which size should they be? That's why I am quite confused.

Washers - check my post #3.

Oh and yes, fit and tighten the hoses to the calipers first, then tighten the other end on the Subframe.

Thanks @Spider! :-)

So, looks like I have all the washers for the two banjos (connecting brake and clutch) but no washers for the calipers? :-/

Washers 19 & 20 are not in the kit.

As Nick has said - you have two washers for the clutch banjo (one each side of the banjo) and one washer for each of the calipers

As said those washers are not part of the kit.

Ok @GraemeC @nicklouse, but which washers should I use on the caliper side? They seems a bit large.

And for the clutch banjo, the diagram shows two differents sizes of washers, but if I use the first two washers, the remaining ones would be the same size. Is it OK ?

Please find attached pics of each washer on the caliper side of the hose.

PS: sorry for insisting, I don't want to mess the installation :-/ Normally it should be quite simple, but the kit seems strange, or at least not accurate regarding the diagrams.

Does not matter if they both also fit the banjo bolt. If only one type fits the banjo then use the other.

yes they do seem to be the incorrect size but that is how they are.

there are quite a few thread on this.

don’t forget the front hoses can be sided with a deeper drilling in the top which is for the pressure switch/banjo. If you fit it the other way you can have issues on the other side with it not sealing.

Ok, thanks again @nicklouse :-) I'll check tomorrow.

I had already read most (all?) threads regarding Goodridge hoses and I remember having read something about the washers seeming too large, but there was no mention of the reference or size of the washers needed.

Regarding the side, yes, the right front hose is labelled "OSF fitting". I love this UK terms which doesn't mean anything in France: our curb is on the other side  :D Would be more appropriate to use left/right side :-)

Another question: is there any con about cutting a hole in the right "panel" (well, the metal plate which is annoying for any work on the front right brake…), like it's done on the left panel? Just to get an easier access to the nuts, banjo,… Wondering why they didn't cut the hole for both side.

Hello,

Last summer, I installed some braided brake hose in the front of my Mini, but couldn't find time to do the same at the back.

But I have some pics which can help others wanting to change their brake hoses :-)

On the right side, I had to cut a hole to make an easy access. When I cut it, I thought it looked quite "OK", but you can see on my pics it doesn't look that good :-(

Also, for the left side, it's quite annoying to access tighten everything, so I modified a 24mm spanner to make the job easier.

I cut a slot so the pipe wouldn't be a problem and I also shaved the side so it could fit correctly. I also cut it in half so I could use it through the hole.

Olivier
