Ordered a pair of lower pins from Minispares, tried to torque it to 45Nm according to spec, thread stripped. I though this was one-off so the other one I just hand tighten and loctite it.

Last night in a Facebook private Mini group, a member posted exactly the same problem and then over ten members mentioned the same so this must be quality problem of the pins.

I did email Minispares about this problem but got no response, very disappointed.

I dont have any.
I have nothing but a bare shell at the moment.
I propose to buy everything new seeing as its a ground up build but the reports of bad quality components is very disconcerting.

It was me that put up the other post. Were your Minispares pins the genuine ones (2A4362) or the cheaper copies (2A4362MS)?

I have never had a problem with them.

Did you use a mole wrench to pull the end up tightly?

Was the other end located?

Hope you sort it out.

No, 45nm is correct as per Haynes and the post at the top of this forum.

Just thinking most Minis were build before decimalisation so Imperial rather than Metric ... and Haynes could be a typo!

I used a 1/2 drive socket wrench, hand tighten it to fully seat then used a 1/2 drive torque wrench trying to torque it, and the problem came. The first one was destroyed so I had to reuse the old one on the other side, luckily the old one was physically fine except a bit dirty.

I was going to order some genuine arms from minispares (they're £18.60 each now) but I'll hold off for a while. My old arms will torque up correctly without stripping. They're 58 years old!
