So. it 'looks cool' to destroy the engine even though 99% of the time the bonnet is shut and no-one will see it

take it off when it's on display and put it back on when you drive it then surely

IMO no, but I just answered the question that you asked. You'd have to ask someone who's running lovely turned ram pipes on their SU's.

Also, remember that many of these cars only do a few miles every year, so they're not going to 'destroy' the engine anytime soon.

IMO this looks beautiful, much nicer than any filter.

Back in the day the BDA escorts and lotus cortinas used to run just ram pipes on the webers even in the forests.
Then again the engines were probably pulled every other event for a rebuild.

Well yeah when it's tuned to within an inch of its life and only gets 10hrs running time anyway I suppose it makes very little difference, but on a normal road car it just seems a bit silly to me

You pays your money you makes your choice I guess

Presumably you can get at least some sort of mesh insert to at least stop the larger bits of muck causing some sort of blockage in the carb/inlet

While ram pipes might look cool that pikey cotton reinforced clear hose on the breather system is the pits, why people use it is beyond me, I think the smoke coming out of the exhaust is going to tell you your engines gone long before you lift the bonnet

I'd highly recommend a set of stub stacks inside a modern foam filter setup. My own car runs a pair of HS4s fitted with a RAMAIR quick release foam filter, and a pair of K&N stub stacks easily fit inside and act as internal ram pipes. This setup performs well and sounds brilliant, and I'm sure you could fit the same stub stacks inside the cone-type K&N filters if you preferred to go down that route. MED have a nice range available. https://www.med-engi...es/stub-stacks

You'll struggle to get MED stub stacks to fit in a K&N cone filter

I was more meaning the K&N ones which I have, apologies if I wasn't super clear - these are the ones I mean. https://www.bullmoti...85-5039/85-5039

I’ve used these cheap ones from eBay
https://www.ebay.co....tm/155135017664

The genuine KN ones are 85-5039 but they appear to be discontinued

Depends what ram pipes you need for your build. Then fit socks.

Vizard recommends a short stack be more of a rounded doughnut shape

MED's stub stacks work well, but I don't know whether they'll fit into K&N's.
They're designed to fit the MED/ITG filters
