Hello Everyone

I have finally decided to start up a project thread about my mini, I have wanted to do this for a while now but haven’t got round to it being such a lazy git :withstupid:

My minis name is Minty (I didn’t name it my friends mum did and it kinda stuck) I have had him for a year now during which time he has managed to get through an engine block and a gearbox and lots of other bits/bobs :w00t:

I have just started an apprenticeship and I finally have enough money to start a proper project, I have decided to start from scratch, this is going to be a full mini rebuild including completely going over the mini and de rusting it, a full paint job, fully re-done interior and a rebuilt powerful engine.

Performance wise I want to be able to keep up with or better yet overtake my friend who has a 2.0 16v VW Golf mk2, this will be difficult as his golf currently has 157 bhp and only weighs about 900-950 kilos, I know my chances would be better if I went for a non a series engine but I would much rather stick with an a series :w00t:

I have got my hands on this 1275 Metro engine about the same age as my 998cc this is what I am planning to do to it to get big bhp figures:

1. Send engine to Med and have it turned into a 1293cc FIS engine
2. 7 port cylinder head (yes I know they’re expensive)
3. 40mm Jenvey Throttle bodies & injectors with a mega squirt or emerald ecu system
4. M45 supercharger kit from vmax scart connected to tb’s by homemade plenum
5. And finally one of jack knights new 5 speed dog engagement gearboxes
:w00t:

I realise this is not going to be a cheap project, it is going to take a very long time to complete but I am hoping to have it running and road worthy by next summer

So far I have almost completely stripped the mini, next week i am going to take the subframes off and decide whether i need new ones or not,

after that i its saving up for a paint job :w00t:

Now that sounds like a very expensive and powerful engine you'll have there when finished :w00t: ( I want to have one too :w00t: )

Sweet!

that gear box sounds gorgeous!

you sure a dog box is guna be alright for the road? is this guna be a daily driver or what?

according to my calculations, your guna need 115 hp at the fly to equal your mate! :w00t: which isnt really that impossible at all! thats assuming your cars guna weigh about 700 kilos, and his is 950  im not too clued up on gear ratios and FD's yet, so dunno how that would affect it, but maybe if you had quite a high FD then you wouldnt need as much hp??

are you doing the welding yourself? :w00t:

Dave :w00t:

Ok so here are some more pics of what ive done so far (not much)

The mini is in very good shape, I havnt uncovered any holes or serious rust anywhere but the doors do need replacing and im sure theres a hole in the lower bulkhead somewhere :'( also there are several dents all over the place and the floor as been bent upwards where it was left up on axle stands for too long by someone silly :w00t:

I know a guy who can do my bodywork for me, i have never used a welder before and dont want my mini to be the first thing i practice on.

Yes i know a JK 5 speed Dog box isnt exacly very practical but i dont care, i still want one :w00t:
Here it is: New Jack Knight 5 speed

My plans are to get the thing running without the supercharger, run the engine in, then add the supercharger later on and at some point i might have an attempt at reaching 200 bhp :w00t: but for daily use i will probably just keep the supercharger running low with a larger pulley because even that is still going to be very fast.

Hey there,

first of all this link to a thread on my project may give you some ideas...

http://www.turbomini...p...&tid=119064

i am going to be running a single throttle on mine to eliminate setup issues,

also the Vmax kit will need totaly reworking to work with the 7 port, i think it would be best to move the charger to the front of the engine if possible to prevent the pipework becoming torturous, also I would steer clear of kack knight as the company has been having issues for several years, the only 5 speed i would consider for a forced induction engine is the KAD 5 speed as this has a direct drive top gear and is inherently stronger.

FYI i bought a bare head from minisport and had it built up by vmax, Will be running megasquirt, and am doing some other "unusual" stuff.

have a search on here for oldskoolbabys thread and search for 7 port on the turbominis site this will turn up a fair amount of info, have a read of that and see if you come up with any questions about my build.

actually just noticed that new jakck knight gear kit is a direct top too, make it better, but i still wouldn't go there.

Also your not that far away from me either, if your serious about a 7 port perhaps you would like to actually see one in the flesh before you part with a considerable amount of cash, ie drop in and have a look at mine before i bolt it onto a block.

Adult material LOL!

the belt drive is minispares toothed ancillery kit with the large waterpump pulley and Cooper S type damper, below are the parts.

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=33345

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=34237

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=35705

http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=36125

really its not needed, i bought the stuff when i was going to build a normaly aspirated screamer and as i had the parts used them, strictly speaking the waterpump and alternator will be running too slow with the large pulleys, but the slow water pump won't be a problem as i have an electric water pump that will come in if the temp creaps up at tickover and after shut down (along with an electric fan in the wheel arch) the alternator however could be an issue but its a case of trying it.

also the damper looks weird as it is machined with cutouts for the ECU trigger.

unfortunately most of the pics are a bit dodgy as they're only from an oldish phone.
