Can't seem to find these anywhere!

https://minispares.c...ne/CAM6126.aspx

The only one I can find are the ARP ones which are really expensive. Yes I know they're good quality, but they're REALLY expensive!

Not building a race engine and dont intend to have sustained high revs for long (4k revs for motorway driving I guess?)

Anyone know of any suppliers stocking A+ conrod bolts?

So are you just replacing the bolts because the engine is apart or because one of the bolts is damaged?

They have been out of stock now for quite some time.

I did once order some 'A' type bolts for one of the suppliers. I wouldn't use them as they appeared ordinary bolts of some type, that had the heads thinned down - by grinding,,,,,,

A while back, I did use Black Cap Head Bolts, in Unbrako brand. Off hand, these are grade 10 and well up to the job for a street engine. Some care is needed on assembly though to align the thrust faces of the cap to the rod.

As dear as they are, on the few small bore engines I've done since new genuine bolts became unavailable, I have been using the ARP's.

Personally, if I don't have a record of the Big End Bolts so they can be checked for dia and stretch, I won't re-use them. If one let's go, the damage it will do will be 10 x or more than the cost of the ARP bolts.

yea because im taking the engine apart i might as well consider replacing them as that seems to be a recommendation form several people.

I havent taken the pistons out yet so I don't know if theres anything wrong with the bolts, but I'm considering changing them anyway

Is this the only ARP bolt set for small bore A+ engines? or are there others?

Does anyone know the part number so I can try to find it from other suppliers selling ARP bolts? (the minispares markup is pretty steep vs say 7mini - https://www.7ent.com...cc-sen0118.html)

The number on the barcode is 200-6207 though I can't tell if thats the part number

Hey Spider, on this post you mentioned that ARP fasteners require the caps to be rehoned. You also mentioned "traceable Cap Head Bolts"

What are those? do those require the caps to be rehoned? and if not, where can I get them?

If there is nothing wrong with them I would reuse. They were all there was available for many years. My reused ones happily saw over 8k in the race engines.

As a matter of course in any engine reconditioning, it is good and appropriate practice to have the rods 'closed and honed'. So if it were me, regardless of the fastener, I have the rods reconditioned.

By 'traceable', I mean bolts that you know for sure, where they came from by certification or other means to satisfy yourself that they are the real deal. While counterfeit product is popping up everywhere these days, I haven't yet had trouble with Unbrako fasteners out of a sealed box.

Never heard of unbrako bolts before. Have a link?

Google is very good at times https://unbrako.com/

As for ‘penny pinching on rod bolts’ , I don’t consider it ‘penny punching’ in this case, not all builds require ARP bolts.
