You really wouldn't know what was needed until the engine was pulled down.
At the very least, factor in having the Cylinder Head overhauled. The guides will almost certainly be worn, with Oil coming down them, it will badly pit the Exhaust Valve Seats and also with new rings fitted, the oil coming via the worn guides, may well not allow the new Piston Rings to bed in and seal, be it a re-ring or a re-bore.
You'll want to check the bore for wear and shape (as they do get out of round) before deciding on which way to go here.
Also, check the crank for wear, as it that's worn too, it may rumble in use but as well as that, excessive oil will be flung from the Big Ends that again, may not allow the new rings to seal.
I'm sure once you open it up, you'll find lots that need doing, I would recommend against any short cuts thinking that you'll be saving any money as you can be sure, you'll be back in there fixing it again before too long.

I agree with the above. You will spend just the same amount of time pulling out taking it apart and rebuilding it if you used good / new components as you do re-using ones that are of uncertain quality. You could either get a replacement engine as a short term solution and rebuild your own at a later date or take the components to an engine shop and get them to check them over and see what needs doing.
