Think Im going remove the engine and change the pump. The fact it runs without any worrying noises gives me comfort.

What parts will I need?

Oil Pump (of course !) - but you maybe wise to wait until it's out to see what drive you have on the Cam unless you are sure of what's in there. I find the stock steel backed pumps excellent.
Gasket to suit
Flywheel Housing Gasket

That's really about it.

You will need to remove the Flywheel, so you'll need a puller and while it's off, it's an opportunity to check the clutch.

Also the primary gear oil seal and maybe check the clearance on the primary gear.

+1 for standard oil pumps unless you intend to strip it all down and build a super hot motor.

Fit an AC Dodd Zero Tolerance oil pump, the mutts nuts of oil pumps.

Ah man if only I had known I would have. Put my order into spares this morning.

Its not going to a highly tuned engine so happy to go standard.

As a matter of interest, what sort of price is an AC Dodd modified pump?

Just keep in mind here guys the oil going through the pump is unfiltered. Since our oil shares with the gearbox and that has baulk rings, with every gearshift, there's always going to be metallic debris made (from a small amount of normal wear of the baulk rings) that circulates with the oil and goes through the pump. This is why they wear faster than any other part in the oil circuit. You could go to the added expense of fitting a re-worked oil pump, but it won't take long at all in a street car for it to be like every other pump after about 5000 - 10000 miles, unless you'd like to change it often. Race Cars generally suffer less here as they have dog boxes and don't use baulk rings, so the debris that's generated by a road car, generally isn't present in a race car. As long as you have the magnet on the sump plug, change the oil and filter often, the stock pump seems to last about 80 000 - 100 000 miles.

Interesting, I'd always imagined there'd be more debris going through the pump from a dog box than from a syncro box.

Only if you mess the shifts up !

I have no idea on costings of these units, I just know that they work better and longer than wider tolerances units

IM trying to test for oil pressure at the moment. I have an 850 engine in the car and I want to leave that in until Im ready to put in the new one and I want to be guaranteed it has pressure before I fit it. So I don't have a spare flywheel to turn it over with the starter to check for pressure so would it be a bad idea to fit the crank bolt and spin it with my impact gun with no plug in ? just worried about potentially stripping the threads
