If the synchro hubs teeth are all aligned it is quite possible to put the lever into each gear with the engine off and the clutch engaged.

I'm getting confused about the exact nature of the problem.  If the engine is running and the clutch pedal is depressed will the gear lever move to engage the gears?  or does the lever refuse to move into gear?

Can you 100% confirm that the friction plate is in there?

DId we get confirmation that the friction plate is actually in?

So I had a bit of time this weekend, and I replaced the clutch lever arm, release bearing and the plunger. As I thought, this didn’t fix the problem!

I took the starter motor off to see what happens when the clutch is pressed and I can see all the parts moving. I couldn’t quite make out the fingers from sticking my phone in there to have a look, but I’ve taken a video for people to see.

https://drive.google...ew?usp=drivesdk

Now that I replaced pretty much everything to do with the clutch, I’m starting to think this is not a clutch problem and it’s something else? If the selector pin on the gearbox, it’s not corresponding to the gear on the gear selector could that be the problem?

My thoughts are, that when I put it into gear (.E. press clutch, put into gear, release clutch) that I shouldn’t be able to move the gearstick while it’s in gear, but actually I’m able to move the gear selector through gears without pressing the clutch. So it’s either a gear selector problem or a gearbox problem?

getting confused myself after reading this, is the problem the clutch does not engage ie. no drive in gear with clutch pedal released or does not disenage ie. unable to engage any gear with engine running and clutch pedal depressed

Hi all,

Taken the clutch and flywheel off today, see attached photos.

The problem is that I do not engage with any gear when pedal is release.

Can you turn the splined primary gear with a gear selected?  Can you turn the primary gear with the gearbox out of gear?

your photos still don't show the back of the flywheel where the clutch plate spline should be visible.

Was the top hat over the crank bolt? Then onto the clutch spines?

To me something doesn't look right with the groove in the end of the the crank. Top left groove's bottom edge in the above photo looks very worn, and what looks line fine metal swarf around it and on the front of the pressure plate. Not that that should have any effect I am sure on the clutch's operation unless the flywheel  keyway locating plate is not fitted correctly to match up with the offset on the crank. This might explain the ware in the keyway. IF one side is almost fitted into the slot and the flywheel bolt is torqued up to the correct setting the other side of the key plate could before forced into the slot but not all the way as the extra pressure means the nut has reached it's correct torque before the whole unit is sitting as far onto the crank as it should be.

Just my thoughts.

Paddy
