I was thinking that surely at some stage someone made an aftermarket HEI setup to fit Lucas distributors.

Another possible option is a Scorcher Distributor - been ages since I dealt with them. They are based in Melbourne and make distributors for A and A+ Series (and many other engines) based on Bosch Dissy's.

Performance Ignition Systems is the company;-

Lucas made an electronic module that was stand alone and you bought the pickup and trigger wheel to suit you car. I will have to look up the name but I doubt they would be available second hand anyway

That’s right, there’s one now sold as the “Lumenition Optronic” which have a fitting kit for each distributor and then a master ignition system. It uses an optic sensor though

There is also a system called “magnetronic” by Lumenition

Lumenition is not Lucas. The Lucas 9ne was just labeled as 'Lucas ignition amplifier' but I think it also had an optic sensor or a hall eff3ct now I think about it. Before that was the Lucas TAC.

This is possibly the one you were thinking of, the AB13.

I don't know what it was like, seems like it may be an earlier version to the AB14 (CEI) which is the one that uses the GM module. If it was a magnetic trigger then that is what I need.

I also found there was the TAC.

They also had the OPUS system but they replaced OPUS with CEI due to the OPUS being unreliable.

It looks like the AB13 was a hall effect system. Magnetic would only have two wires from the distributor.

I often find useful information just by looking on eBay. That's where I got these pictures.Attached File  Screenshot_20240314_200843_eBay.jpg   33.45K   1 downloadsAttached File  Screenshot_20240314_200847_eBay.jpg   48.71K   1 downloadsAttached File  Screenshot_20240314_200850_eBay.jpg   34.05K   1 downloads

The 59DM4, as shown in Timmy's photo was most commonly found on Austin Maestros. Pretty sure the only Metro to use it was the Turbo.

It'd been superseded by the 65 by the time electronic ignition was standard on Metros and Minis.

For now...

Maybe in the future. I assume you mean megajolt.

I'd like to keep the system relatively simple and cheap.

Drammed autocorrect...

I would say keep an eye out at autojumbles. Mega jolt getting hard to find these days never mind an old escort or sierra..

Sparkduino with coil on plug, or an amplified coilpack, is the new MJ

That one is designed to work with a DIS, the reluctor is in the rotor position.

I was thinking of making something though. I found some NOS Mitsubishi reluctors and pickups on eBay. I just don't know what direction they were designed for, I think it might matter. https://www.ebay.com...tm/166129864035 I just don't know if the reluctor would fit over the cam and then I'd need a way to secure it. That's just one of the cheapest ways I can find to get a pickup and reluctor. There are plenty of others but they are more expensive and have the same fitment question.

There are some minispares/truespark distributors that use a reluctor/magnetic trigger however the module is still inside the distributor. If the pick-up was separate to the module I could make it work.
