Why do you need the oil to go into the line?

I need to read the oil pressure

ok got it, the problem is that my gauge is still reading 0 after several attempts of turning over without plugs..The line will not fill with oil,it may partially fill while running but the pressure reading will be ok.The oil causes a pressurised bubble in the pipe. You could remove the pipe at the gauge end and start the engine which will be spectacularly messy and refit the pipe while running but the oil will drain away over time.Steve..

The line doesn't need to be oil filled to indicate a pressure. Air can transmit the pressure equally well.

Ok thanks, What can I do to get the oil pressure up? the oil light in the dash went out but there's no pressure. Will it go up if I connect a booster to the battery? The line doesn't need to be oil filled to indicate a pressure. Air can transmit the pressure equally well.

If the oil light goes out, you do have pressure.
What you don't have is a pressure gauge indication.
Did the gauge work, previously?
Could there be a pinch, or kink, in the line?

Yes the gauge is a mechanical gauge which worked before, yes I do notice there is a kink in the line where I tightened it to the T conmection on the block. I thought the kink will not affect the pressure from going up but now I think that is the problem I have. Thank you sir for your time.

It took me a while to work that out after building a new engine as I didn’t have a pressure switch hooked up. Bodged one in which showed pressure was building, fired the engine up and the gauge decided it wanted to join in 🙄

You can bleed it. Just crack the nut on the back of the gauge, turn it over but don't start it. Have a rag under or around the fitting, as soon as oil comes up, nip off the nut. Over time though, it might drain back to some degree.

From your first statement - if you are still worried about first start procedures - ask some more questions - best of luck with firing it up.
