i did the back panel today, i had bought a 2106 one. its different but the parts i want are the same. So first part was to cut the top off the panel as i wanted the bottom part, then graft into it the reversing light from the 2103

 

 

 

 

 

at this point i realised that i had cut it up and there was no strength left to it so i tacked it onto the top part again

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

not the best but defo do the job. my welder was playing up, turns out at some point i had put a 1mm tip in it and it was not always working then

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

seems very strange to see the car comming into one colour again, hopefully this year itll be welded up!

Did a little bit on the car today, but was interrupted by my mate stuart who was asking if i could weld a few bits on his car for him

 

 

 

 

 

 

Do you have 20k for it? i dont, but id love it. so at some point soon it need some front floor patches in it, should not be too much of a job but i need to weld my car !!

 

 

i did some welding though on it, welded the end of the leg

i fitted the quarter panel today, not much to say about it other than its on!

 

 

 

it didnt fit well around the top of the door so i cut and welded it

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

it was funny an amazon delivery driver came, and he gave me a parcel for my brother, and he said, wow lada 2103! he was here talking for about 20 mins, told him how the car came from Bg and he was so made up. He hadnt seen one for years, said he couldnt wait to see it about . Hopefully more progress tomorrow, have to use some sun cream tomorrow, i got sunburnt!

not a massive day on the lada today, but did a little. i sold my 1293 engine from my mini and the guy was here for ages!

 

i needed to repair where the quarter goes up by the top edge of the boodlid. i never took a before pic but it was just a bit missing. so i made the part to go in

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

just need to cut the height of it to suit, and it matches the other side really well

i did a little bit more today, i found the bumper filler plate int eh boot, so i cleaned it up and welded it on

 

 

 

 

 

in the corner of the boot there was a little plate needed and some grinding, so i did that

 

 

 

 

 

 

i decided to fit the bracket for the seat, bit of a trial fit

 

 

 

 

 

seems very strange being sat int eh drivers seat, brings back lots of memories, back pain, arms stretched etc. lol... but it was nice to sit in it. the good thing for me is that the left hand drive car has right hand drive car seats, so the drivers is like never been sat on...

its coming along, starting to look more like a solid shell now. fair play also for the panel fabing up

thanks baldspeed! it feels like it taking ages, but now in my mind with the steel wheels on it, it looks really good. So i need to push on and get it done.

 

 

Last time working on the car, i got half the seat mount welded in and i ran out of gas. Brother went to collect some for me in the week and now gas sorted...

previous owner had done some repairs, he cant weld, but had a go. i cant knock him for that, and he has saved me some time etc by cutting bits out. just hope i dont find anything too bad he has done lol

 

 

 

 

this side had the fuel tank in the quarter, so that had to come out. it had fuel in it which was so yellow, and i took the float mech out and it was quite dirty in there. 

 

 

 

 

I cut the quarter off, and started to see how bad it was on this side. actually better than the other in general, but still loads of work

inner arch looks savable too, so that is good

with the car the other way about now, i have started to look and its not as bad as the other side but still a lot of work. so i started with removing the wing with my plasma.

 

 

 

I think first ill remove the front suspension tower, and sort that out, as that is what i did on the other side. that means i need access to the inner wing so the carbs came off.

 

 

 

 

 

 

So now the carbs are off, one of the water ways is in the head by the inlets, and it leaked coolant into the engine, so i took the head off. I need teh cam, sprocket, and a few other bits for the new engine. the new head is back from lane ends, and its had a skim, 8 new valves, pressure checked and is all good now.

Not a massive update, but still!

 

i put the new block in my car this morning , and took it to work. i go in for 7 and start at 8 so doing some on either my rally car or the lada engine is fine

 

 

 

 

Its a bit light for Russian tank grey, but itll do the job. Ive got parts on teh boot of my car tomorrow to start building it.
