Main caps boring from MED was 500 when I asked. Paid 1000 in Germany.

  Guessing that's without the caps?

I just paid 240 for steel caps line boring.

That's not to bad but for me to include everything that needs buying (block, caps, sleaves, stud and nut set) and the all the machining it will end up being very spenny just to get the block usable.

If it needs sleeves and main caps, then there’s a lot of parts and machining needed to get it to a useable block.

Then there’s all the other machining and checking needed of threads, corrosion etc. Hopefully it hasn’t had a big skim off the top deck as well

The brand new block from Minispares starts to look like a reasonable option

Yes totally agree with you, by the time I'd finished, it possible wouldn't be far off the 4k MS want for a new block

@AC.................Ok that's good to know AC, would that not weaken the block? thought the very maximum was 74.7mm? That's ok as I'm in no rush anyway as my shell is still a rot box and unregistered, what would be a rough cost to sleave it? can you line bore the new caps too? also thinking of a 4 bolt center main cap while I'm at it, can you drill and tap that? final question where are you based?

If AC can't help, speak to SMMC, based just outside Royal Leamington Spa.  The sorted out my S block.

Ok cool, what is SMMC?

It's surprising how many S blocks come up for sale without caps.
Hmmm, strange 🤔

Thanks Timmy

SMMC build a lot of engines.  Mine took a year for them to fit in although I was not in a hurry.
