Leaking Brake Line Union

I reinstalled the old hose from the drivers side as the original passengers side hose is in pieces. The pipe appears to seal properly as there's no longer any play. The photo below also shows the tube nut becomes tight with a bigger gap between the top of the hose.

This narrows that specific issue to the new hose, but thanks for everyone's comments about the state of the pipe and the flare. I will look into what other pipes on the car also need replacing (likely most if not all).

You could ask him for his Blessing before he leaves ... although that might not be enough if the pipe is as dodgy as it looks!!

Interesting problem. I don't think it's the depth of anything-- you have enough threads on the tube nut to push the flare down where it is supposed to be. It's just not able to apply any pressure because either the end of the tube nut or the back of the flare have ended up the wrong shape. I think what's what people are saying.

But to replace either would involve cutting the flare off and making a new one anyway. However it's still interesting to understand the failure.

I would replace all the pipes on this car as they look a bit corroded. You've got some pitting there-- what's the situation everywhere else? There may be places where it's worse. The only way to really get a proper look at them is to replace them. The last thing you want is a pipe blowing out while driving. That can ruin your whole day.

It is better to ask for a blessing before starting a job, that cursing it half way through.
