if you were to build it with new parts people who knew what they were loking at would know it was a kit car!so i wouldnt care if it was q reg or not.in any case any mini with a zcars kit should be q if you read the rules!it how you interprit them.i know of many cars which are not what they say they are including minis and minus'sIt would need a collapsable steering coloumn and would get a q plate, unless you used the new minus shell with all new components and then you could get an new reg plate

mini fibre glass shells.

heritige shells are 3000 and rust in 5-6 years.so maybe a f/g shell has got to be worth over half this price!Didn't you consider this before?
And I offered you over £1500 for a bare/rolling shell...
So I think around that figure would be a good selling price....
For 3000 they should be E coated!!

Ask Pete, I believe the main thing is getting a collapsable steering column, but I believe you can borrow one from another car.
Can we just clear something up once and for all. You do not need a collapsable steering column to pass an SVA test. If you took a totally standard 1978 mini for an SVA it would pass. This would not have a collapsible steering column but does have a steering wheel designed to collapse a certain amount in the event of a frontal impact. As long as you have a standard mini steering wheel(non airbag style) on a standard mini steering column when you go for an SVA then you won't have a problem.
And these shells are easily worth more than £1500 each. If I had some spare cash I would buy both.

Interesting. Mine is now 7 1/2 years old. Anyone notice it rusting at the Nurburgring?
They are E-coated and made with zinced steel, not to the standards they were originally made to but to current production standards. They stopped doing the seam sealing and painting on the very good grey water based poly primer they were using because so many guys in body shops didn't know how to paint on top of it (after all it is only used in car factories normally) and kept on getting it wrong. Including the monkey who painted mine. As of next year they will be available not only seam sealed and primed as an option but also painted in any colour two-pack you like.
The ESVA is for volume manufactured grey import cars that only need a tweak to meet British specification (like just fitting a fog lamp for example) but can still be expected to meet the current standards for emissions and airbags which kit cars aren't expected to meet.
