But will that work? Because when i plugged my dvd player directly into my amp's aux ports, i had no control over my volume control and i burnt out alot of the wire for my DVD plater.

I honostly dont know! i will test it with my cheapo mp3 player first. dont want to fry my iPod :P

ok this is my first post on this forum, love minis, but i aint a noob wen it comes to sound...
i can assure you that your ipod WILL NOT work without a headunit...
ok here is why:

firstly, you wouldn't be able to turn on you amp - there isn't a remote turn on wire when you use a ipod, thus your amp won't switch on with your ipod...
secondly, the signal voltage that comes out of your ipod is waaaay too small for the amplifier to recreate...remember that all HU's have a built in pre-amp that boosts the signal so that the amp can easily pick up the sound coming in...
thus although you can connect the ipod to the amp aux connections, the music that plays (if you can turn on your amp) would be soft even at max volume....

thus to cuts this long explanation short, an ipod needs a HU with aux input or a pre amp...
hope it helps :)

dam that sucks...

well what bout putting the HU in the cubby hole? and then having your ipod in your nice dock?
i no it would mean no cubby hole, but stealth means sacrifice :)

remote turn on is an easy thing to recreate, its only a 12v feed that turns the amps on, so just wire in a switched 12v feed to the amp, problem solved

and as for the ipod not having enough oomph to feed the line ins on the amps, it may work, or you could buy or make a preamp

very simple and effective, looking at 20quid max

I know.. old post.. but I thought people may like to know that you CAN make it work. I did an install like this in my old Jeep CJ5.. because with no top or doors, stealth was essential.

Just run the remote wire to your ignition circuit, when the car is running or key turned even, the amp will turn on. Adjust the volume of the amp with your ipod volume on max to set your 'max' volume.. and away you go.

The ipod is connected to the amp by an rca->headphone jack. Simple.

Ditto - after my HU was nicked, I was running all my music from an MP3 player, a cheapo amp, and the REM was just fed from the rear screen heater (well, I always had it on anyways)

Far from ideal (was VERY quiet due to the different impedances on the amp input, and the MP3 output) but, it worked, and gave me musical noise!

Can anyone suggest a good 10 or 12 inch active sub with box that would fit in a mini boot with a board preferably so that it fit in with the sub pointing towards to middle

any help appreciated

Hi, Just wondering, How well does having the sub in the boot actually work? There cant be much air movement? Is it 'that' bass'y?

the thing is that the space between the tank and the sub is quite tight.....seems that you must struggle to get the spare wheel out...
