Hello everybody! I am just new on this forum, and this is the first forum I log in. Hope to find the expertice information if possible. Have a Mini City E 1983 with a 998cc engine which went down, and tirde to invest money on it, and decided to purchase a used low mileage 1275cc engine with SPI. Was a good oportunity to buy, and did with our ask, now I am in face to convert my car to 1275 cc. The main problem can see now, is to know if I could use same instrument panel, (central spedo) with the SPI wiring loom. Have the Rover wiring loom and seems like some connectors match even with same color code, there are minimal changes with streing wheel wiring. Also need to know if there is some protection with the security system (remote) I need to know before to try start engine? Wish to know if some body out there already have this experience?
Regards

The SPi's use the rover keyfob imobiliser and alarms yes or at least my 96 equinox and my mates cooper did you will need the keyfob my mayes and his dad struggled for 5 hours trying to get round it in his rover 400 (same system) he ended up getting a new keyfob but you at least need the keycode

the problem you will have with the speedo is that your old gearbox would have had a speedo drive set up for 10" wheels asnd your new gearbox will have a speedo drive set up for 12" wheels so your speedo will be out depending on whether you have changed your wheels?

Wyne:

thank you so much for your input, yes I do have the keyfob, probably will replace the battery. Which is the procedure on the keyfob to start engine? there are 2 buttoms with out indications, which is one for what?
Engine came with gearbox and speedo cable, seems like I could use the same old speedo cable attached to the gear box.
