Well from that thread. I had a clonk. Fitted new ball joint as they were loose. ... .. Still have a clonking noise. Only happens over bumps. I've read that I can check for ... either CV wear or pot wear by driving full lock and listening for noise.

So I'm gonna go do that now. Any other suggestions to solve my clunking conundrum?

....stone me. I spelt conundrum right 1st time. WOOT!

I know the lower ones on the floor are good (replaced few months back) top ones I'm not so sure.

I mean it only happens at low speeds. I can bomb about at 60-70 on country road and there no clonk. Well apart from massive holes. But on regular roads at low speed (30) over manholes I get the clonk....

....that last bit sounds wrong.

Well,

Clonk is still here. Check the subframe tower mounts were still tight, they are. Check the bushes over (bottom subframe ones. the ones that connect the subframe near your feet) they look all good. Bounced on El Gordo, no clonk.

......this is getting annoying. Any other ideas chaps?

edit

couldn't be the rack could it. I jacked up El Gordo and gave it a wiggle and there is a tiny wee clonk when you pull the wheel left to right.

Racks only a year old tho.

Yay GT Motors!

Just been to my local nice mechanic place and he suggested the following.

a) Could be worn cups on the suspension,

I said probly not as the car would drop. He say..."hmm good point"

B) Suggested taking damper off.

This is what I'm now going to try.

Where does it 'sound' like the noise is coming from if you had to guess? In the car/engine bay/wheel area?

Dependant on the answer to the above question would steering colomn bushes make a 'clonking' when knackered?

Now you mention it it does seem more steering column, but that might just be me. At low speed it sounds like its coming from the front driver side wheel. Big ones seem right on the column tho. I did change the bushes not too long ago tho.

edit

been recomended new bushes for the arms. Good idea?

Will check for cracks tommrow.

As for the bushes, mini spares do 3 or 4, there rubber, poly for weird gemonetry, poly top hat ones.

bugger me it's confusing.
