MG 1275, plus stage 3 head + 286 cam and twin su's.

would that work? would it give sufficant torque and bhp? what su's and how much?

Yeah - that would be a lively setup, twin SUs - 1.5"
Megajolt would be cool on it too...

Megajolt is a programable ignition system.

Su's - if going for twin (£200+ for a rebuilt set in A1 nick), then 1.5" twins.
If going for a single - then a hif44 (£70+ for a rebuilt unit)

figures?, lots of factors: might be worth a browse here:

thats the carbs to go for - go for a maniflow inlet, and rebuild them carbs as they are bound to be worn out and this is why twins get such a bad rep - you can get them cheaper if you look around: but factor in a rebuild.

i would just go with a single HIF 44. it would be a whole lot easier to calibrate than twin SU's. with the single you would only be losing a negligable amount of power at the low end.

Aye, even a single HIF44 is good for around 140 horses if all setup correctly for the engine in question.

I've heard GW's 290 cam and it was smooth, i thought it was gona be lumpy as hell!! it did have a slightly higher idle but if he hadn't have told me I probably wouldn't have noticed...

On the twin Su bit I saw a guy the other day who was running twin HIF38's on his mini so they are worth considering and can gbe got cheaper on ebay.

That's interesting stuff, did they do them as pairs (ie left and right carbs) or were they a home made conversion?

He said they came off an MGB and from the setup I saw it looked good. He is in the Thames Valley club so I might go and see if he is there sometime and have a chat with him again.
here you are just need a manifold.

150BHP is seriously pushing it for a normally aspirated A series engine. You'd have to be talking full race spec really.

As for horses with a 286 cam or similar. Well, it depends on sooo many other things. Head, carb, exhaust, inlet manifold, ignition system..............

i have a 296... and for those i heard me leaving riviera run sounding lumpy as hell, i had an ht lead off from fitting my run plaque on the saturday!!! it was smooth once i refitted it... i also have a vizarded hif44 which is easy to set up and also made installing nitrous really easy.
