ive applied to do auto engineering year after next (gap year) but not sure if uni is exactly what i want to do.
first choice is sussex tho. the facilities look pretty good but i have a feeling the forumla student is a bit bollo!
other unis applied to are brighton (eng is supposed to be good and up and coming), Brunel, City of London, and loughborough. ive only just heard from loughborough and the auto eng course didnt want me but strangly auto design and materials or something got hold of my application and offered me a place. not sure thats the course id like to do tho. i like getting my hands dirty with engines not playing around with plastic trying to make a dashboard ;D

Think very hard before you sign up, I was on a motorsport technology degree, and hated it, course was rubbish, didn't enjoy the social side of uni either.. if you like getting hands dirty and actually doing stuff (like me) then i'm not sure its for you...

I'm now £6k+ in debt and wish I did an apprenticeship instead

I was course representative on the first year of that, in IPTME, can't think of the leacturers name, but they often share applications and later lectures with the Auto. Engineering guys.
I think I have done well from it, I think. My thesis on laquering of fuel injectors, (industry sponsored - now SAE paper), then Cranfield for an M.Sc, thesis on a fuel pre-vaporisation system, then worked for Delphi Heavy Duty on Advanced Concepts, 4,500 bar injection pressure! Now a lead engineer at Ford on NA Transit.
PM me if you want some more gumph!
