when fitting a hif44 carb should it sit straight/level?

after trying to fit it yesterday to my manifold (which is angled) with no luck its the only thing we can think of being wrong lol so can anyone let me know and also let me know where i can get a straight manifold at a reasonable price

they can be a tight fit...can you not get it in because it is hitting the bulkhead? they dont have to sit straight up.

You may find it easier if you take off the inlet manifold first, then bolt the carb to the manifold and then both to the head.

plenty of fuel going in and a good spark, the last few weeks its had a new (recon) head, new dizzy cap, points, condenser, ht leads and tried 2 different coils and was still missing/running badly so we thought changing the carb would be the last thing but now it doesnt start at all!!

please help before i take a sledgehammer to it!!! lmao :-

Is it the right needle?! Could be massively under or over fueling.

And fitting a new carb isn't like using a sledgehammer then? It's not going to cure rough running any more than tuning the original properly will, unless the throttle spindle bushings were worn out.

In future try to keep the problem in one topic. It helps people look over what has been changed, said, problems caused, etc.

Was that aimed at me? This isn't my thread. I was just saying that it is similar problems to mine and should therefore look at the other thread that I did start.

No but gonna check ignition timing etc from scratch tommorow. Best to check all the basics before moving onto more complicated things.

Is you Hif connected the same? Any chance of some pics of yours?

I had exactly the same problem! could not figure it out, ended up I had to leave my project mini in my mums shed in Scotland because I couldn't figure it out! Yet, I have just fitted one on an MG 1275 to my mini and its perfect.. I think its something to do with where the pipes connect to the O/S of the carb.

Fitment wise, they are a very tight fit, I have always applied subtle modifications to the bulkhead with a large hammer.

Pete.
