Once again progress has been a bit slow due to work, getting pneumonia and playing around with old Corollas but it's had a kick up the arse of late and things are happening at last.
Engine build turned out to be more complex than I imagined. Plan was to re use most of it and just build a new bottom end.
I bought a set of +20 18cc forged Omega's, then worked out my compression with the 28.5cc head I had and it came in around 7:1, way too low!
Sold the head and have got a new one on order with much smaller chambers to get my compression somewhere much more sensible.
Sent my 1275 block off to be soda blasted along with a few other parts (not the gearbox, it works so I'm not stripping it out and distubing things, that'll just get cleaned and painted)
Then it got sent to the machine shop for the usual stuff, rebore, 11 stud, centre strap, tapped oil galleries, cam bearings etc.
Also ordered a crank and gave them my flywheel and crank damper to get the whole rotating assembly balanced.
While that was all being done I got on with making up the few solid brake lines I needed to do. Ordered a straightening tool, by far the most useful thing I've used in a while, I hate wiggly brake pipes!
Got this little lot back and a nice parcel from John at Specialist Components.
Came home from working away all week to a delivery from MED as I needed the shorter gudgeon pins and circlips to suit my new rods, also needed new timing gear as my old doweled one was a pain in the arse.
That was last night and the pile I was greeted with so I got straight on with building the bottom end to check some tolerences.
Next chance I get I can check the crank end float and also measure how much the block needs decking.
Only other engine parts I'm waiting on are the cam and head now, and I need to decide which oil pump to run and get that ordered.
All in all a pretty successful update and another expensive part out of the way, just the paint job left to save for.
