When my car gets wet water gets into the front floor area in a big way. It comes through the doors, behind the doorcards and drips off the bottom of the doors etc...

There was another thread some time ago which went OT all over the place and basically the answer was to replace the door window weather strips. Well I have and it's no better....in fact worse :withstupid:

With the exception of not going out in the rain, what can I do?? I got the weather strips from Mini Spares and I don't see why they shouldn't be good enough...but they obviously don't work. I haven't got a clue what to do...

Take your door cards off and stick plastic sheeting to the inside of your doors then put your door cards back on.

That way the water that comes in will be forced to stay in the door and drain out the drainage holes and not into your car!

The water should not get into the doors in the first place to necesitate fitting the plastic.

The plastic was fitted from the factory to prevent the condensation in the cold weather damaging the door cards!!

If theres water in your doors then you need to replace the lower weather strips. have a lookie see if they are infact incontact with your windows along its entire length, if not, they are goosed

They are in contact all the way along...I thought they would be fine (they are brand new afterall!). The only thing I can notice is that possibly in the middle of the door/window, the seal does not have quite so much pressure against the glass as at the edges. Whether this has anything to do with new door skins or not I am not sure...

Yes there are holes in the bottom of the doors Bungle...but the door seal stops these working while the door is closed, at least to some extent. After I washed the car, I opened the door and could see water come out of the drain holes (as well as drip out from behind the door card).

if the brand new weather strips arent tight up to the window its probably the door skins coming away from the door a bit and leaving a gap. a wise mini man once told me that some skins being fitted in the past werent reenforced properly and the leakage problem is common with them. not sure what you can do about it that doesnt involve plastic sheets and new skins or doors. or you could just put plastic bags on your feet!

If you could see it dripping out from behind the door cards then defo take them off and put something over the holes so that it stops the water coming in.

The door seal DOES NOT block the drain holes in the bottom of the doors.

Now we are getting some where, your doors have been reskinned? I had this on the door I had reskinned, the weather strip would not contact the window at one end, i ended up fettling the panel where the weather strip is fitted to get it to sit some where right. Also check that if the bottom of the door has been repaired, which is usualy the reason for the new skin, that all the drain holes are still present

I'm probably wrong, I just got that impression...

Yes the doors have been reskinned. As I say it IS in contact all the way along...it's just the seal is further away in the middle than at the ends (less pressure against the glass in the middle). This is the only thing I can see which would affect how well they would work, but as I say there is contact all the way along so it seems odd.

How many holes should there be??

The weather strip is not there to stop the water getting in , just to stop most .
mini doors (and every other door on every other car from ever other manufacturer ) are designed to be "wet" , the gaffer tape/plastic sheet is there to stop the water entering the car , the drain holes are there to let the water out of the door

I know water will always get in doors but mine are letting in more than they should. I took the strip off and had a look and the door skin does indeed bow out in the middle...is there anything I can do about thie or is it too late? I think I'll just have to try to stop it getting from inside the doors to inside the car...

i have found water getting in. LOADS! and i know where.

its coming from my engine bay, and dripping through to the drivers side next to the steering wheel.

My bonnet is a little bit out of alignment, so im positive the water is getting in from there, into a nice little area in the engine bay for the water to settle, and i can physically see the water dripping and trcikling out!

Try that!

Thats a well know problem with non genuine skins they aren't the correct profile and will always cause this problem, the only thing you can do is to put some force on the center of the skin at the top and try to bend it in, so its the same distance from the glass as it is at the sides.

use a big hammer to persuade the top lip of the door skin closer to the glass.... may help to get the glass out the way first though......

I Have some flashband which i used to cover the holes in the door behind the door car, works well... come and get it you skinny runt... actually its at gramps garage so you'd better come to mine and we'll pop round.
