Personally find it more impressive to see a clearly very quick car being driven sensibly...at the other end of the spectrum whats ultimatly unimpressive is a slow car being driven like their in a caterham on a track...

Fair comment but it does feel good when i drive on motorways to overtake the motorway cruisers, bm's and mercs in a mini!

A Minus doesn't weigh a great deal less than a normal mini. Ades Minus was about 550kg.

Yeah, fibreglass is lighter, but you have to use more of it to get the strength. On top of that, all the other bits of the car weigh the same - what does an empty shell weigh?

Oh yeah and I meant to ask - surely the subaru's 4 wheel drive takes more bhp to drive it than a mini's simple gearbox and pair of drive shafts???

what the hell do you get your gearboxes from i want one!!

Count on 25-50 % dependant on the box and condition.

Typically gearbox losses are about 30% for a box in good condition, but as Dev says, it could be anything between 20%-50%.

Also diff ratio will make a difference, on my 2.7 i lost 50 bhp to transmission. yes 50 bhp you read that right on my rebulit box with 3.44 i lost 22 bhp.

which is approx 25% of my power gone.

But i am so glad i got it all set up again properly.

ok so if i have 90bhp at the fly with a good/new box 3.1final drive am i looking 75-80bhp at the wheels ?

also will a straight cut gear box improve the losses or is it only realy for strength

SCCR may imporve losses but i would suspect you will be very surprised when you put it on the rollers FM.

I would suggest you are being over hopeful with that and should be looking at high 60's for your wheels figures.

Anyway RR proves nothing as i have said before. Its all pub talk.

Its what you do on the track / road that matters.

Just make sure you dont run out of the most important thing in fast paced driving.......
