Well i got it out with the help of my dad, brother and mate on saturday morning, 2 1/2 hours and it was out all went to plan and thankls to COWBOY's advice i disconnected the brake line quickly and the biggest problem was seemingly an endless supply of electrical connectors to disconnect

then its gone pear shaped as after getting frame in the garage i have discovered that when the car was in a crash early this year and the previous owner took it to MINIMINE for subframe replacement, they although having charged for the frame have instead cut it bent it out and welded it up > :dontgetit: needless to say they are getting a visit from me this week with the trusty recepit in hand

i have got the engine out the frame myself this morning and have taken the diff off the back to check that and all seems fine, certainly no metal bits or silver paste in there and all feels tight and free moving

gearbox looks fine from looking in the diff opening, im starting to get pissed off now as i removed the shafts earlier and after getting the passenger side one out i discovered silver paste inside and little metal bits which leads me to think i was originally right in saying it was a CV joint

the question is do i strip the box of the engine now or do as i now think, all syptoms could be due to the inner CV joint?

thankyou for any replies

Well as above got it all out last weekend, updated earlier this week but AOL crashed while it was uploading all the pictures >:xxx:

sitting in the garage as a complete unit

surprisingly it only took 2 1/2 hours but i will add at least an hour of this was getting rid of all the SPi gear which seems to have been chucked in wherever it will stay

next day feeling brave i got the engine out the frame myself :xxx:

one thing i need to fix while its apart a major oil leak below crank pulley

Diff fine so mates theory proved wrong

Clutch cover coated in oil so a seal has gone definately

Posted Image

Clutch and fly looking ok, started to get p's off as couldnt find anything wrong :xxx:

Posted Image

2 days later and with help of my mate i got the fly off but in the process he tripped over my spanner set, knocked over my set of alloys, knocked off a bumper and sent a set of centre caps flying, as can be seen though behind flywheel, again is coated in oil

cover off and near the bottom on right hand side you will see a little groove, something i thought quite odd

Posted Image

as can be clearly seen the transmission case gasket has blown through quite heavily

all looking good, by now was really starting to think i had wasted time

next night with gearbox finnaly lifted off with help of dad, as i found it surprisingly havey on my own, my dad noticed the problem immediately

4 and a half teeth have totally gone missing on the shaft on the left, quite odd i think as i dont rag the car, its never had any gearbox problems and gave no warning signs

anyone got a box for me? and do i need something specific?

Check to see if the plastic cages of the two large main bearings are still intact and whether there is any slop in the frist motion shaft. Chances are thats whats killed it????
