I'm wanting something a bit different from the usual Union Jack or checkers on the roof of my red Mini... I've always loved WWII bomber nose art, especially the work of Vargas, and I did want to keep the UJ as a homage, so at first I came up with this:

But then I remembered how nice the RAF roundell looked, so I made this:

Both work well, I think, but for different reasons... Which do you think looks better? I'm thinking the UJ version, while exactly what I was after, is a bit "busy" visually compared to the roundell.....

Nice idea, ive always liked WWII nose art.

Would this be printed on Vynal or airbrushed?

I'm going to go with printed vinyl - my budget won't cover airbrushing. The stuff they use to wrap cars is rated at 5 years - I figure in that time I'll probably be ready for a change anyway. :shifty:

Just thinking its more an American thing, are you based in the states? (Saw the Ohio club as well)

Have you designed this yourself, if so what sofware did you use?

The font used for the lettering is "Forelle", and the accent beneath is is a modified "Marcelle Swatch":

Dafont has a ton of downloadable .TTF and Mac fonts, all of which are free for personal use.

I built the graphic myself using Paint Shop Pro 7 (yes I know it's old, but I know the app and it still does a good job... plus I can't afford Photoshop). The original image was very small, so I resized it to 600% using Genuine Fractals, a plugin for Photoshop (which also works in Paint Shop). The extreme upsizing caused the image to "stipple" and create an effect sort of like stained glass, which I modified with Softening tools and some other tricks I've picked up over the years....

I wanted "Fiona" to be a redhead (of course) so I tinted her hair red and changed the color of her hair bows to blue (the original had brown hair and red bows).

I'm in Ohio, USA, yes... :shifty:

Great work! I prefer the uj as it looks more authentic. I'm looking into getting into airbrushing, i'd love to be resonsible for putting cool stuff like this on cars. Getting paid for it is a bonus!

Cool, ive had a play with Photoshop CS but its such a complex program I only know a bit of it. Used it to make my sig (below).

Will ahve to look into the fonts and the resize thing.

You will HAVE to post a pic when you get this done, I think it will look amazing.

ANd stickers on mini are ace! :shifty: (Ive got about 30 on mine :D)

How would it look with just her on a white roof? No background and possibly no name....

Otherwise they both look great maybe the union jack slightly better

judging by your mock ups, i think the RAF target compliments the car alot more than the UJ

what about having it on bonnet stripes, but just the one? Bit more subtle. Would look amazing on the a panel, real nod to the nose art of old :shifty:
