Hay all im looking into the best way i can remove the paint from my shell would like to have it sand blasted but cannot afford that so am looking at doing it manually and hoping someone can give me some advice......

i was going to order some drill controlled wire brush sets and attack it that way ( These ...PRESS Clicky )

But wanted to know if there was a more efficiant way and if they still leave a good surface to work upon.

:D

grinder with a sanding disk would be more user friendly.

Grinder/drill with sanding disk, Nitromors works to an extent but it takes ages. it's useless if the paint is thick though!

If you have a compressor use a DA, it took the paint right back quickly for me :D

Got a new toy yesterday

i was told not to press down with it, and to avoid corners and it will turn paint and rust to dust.

well the guy was right it WONT touch the metal no mater how hard you press down it just polishes it up and removes all paint etc..

Yeah those things are bloody brilliant but kinda expensive as they don't last long. If you are planning to strip the shell before removing the paint, I'd use nitromors, and then go over it with 80 grit sandpaper on a DA. That gets rid of everything, with a stripdisk (pictured above) you cant get into crevices, so it has it's limitations. Nitromors is horrible stuff, but works really well so long as you do a small area at a time and clean off the area with panel wipe after. Oh and always wear gloves and goggles! I got some in my eye at work, the most painful experience of my entire life!

im going to be doing this to my mini soon. i picked up one of those poly discs from halfrauds for £6. will see how it goes. what s thew best thing to put on the bare metal right away to stop surface rust . or to protect the metal for long periods of time as the project wont exactly happen overnight .

primer is porous, so by all means put primer on bare metal but dont leave it anywhere it may get damp.

2 pack is best but anything is better than nothing
