how long can you leave the shell with just etch primer , and primer?

All depends on how much moisture is in the air where you are keeping it. I'd say no more than a day if it's quite moist, if it's totally dry, indefinitely I guess. A dehumidifier would help.

To elaborate on this Gem of information that gifted the thread....
Yes, primer is porous, and it will absorb moisture if your garage is damp or if it is poorly sealed agaisnt the elements, Really you want to be Etch priming the car first mate, then start getting some general primer coats on. However if you garage is sealed up and (like mine) drains warmth from your house... it's quite feasible to keep it in primer indefinately
(panelbeater beat me to it baaaah...)
Iv'e had parts in my garage in primer (even some bare metal) for upt 5months now.. no rust, not a speck.
