Why not?hmmm i didn't think about reliability. Guess a supercharged 988 with a bmw head wouldn't be very reliable

long stroke 1275, 1430 or 1480 and 8v head would make a really nice torquey engine

998 block and 16v/ 8v is not practicaly workable. The 850 block requires mega machine work to offset the bores enough to get the 8v head to work and bore thickness with 67mm pistons is not the best.
There is a was round it but for the effort of just re drilling the water passages and head studs, the 1275 block is by far the easiest and cheepest way to go.
Dont forget that any of these engines in normaly aspirated form will require a fully worked and lightened crank shaft, lightened rods, top quality pistons, lightened flywheel and a full balance. These engines rev to 8500rpm!! All these lightened parts cost pretty much the same 1275 or 998, so for the extra benefit of the extra cc at very little extra cost, sticking with 998 just for the fun of it, you really have to be sure!
