thats a completly diffent thing- thats a battery cut off switch, usually found on competition cars.

im comfused now- thought you were looking at installing a hidden push button start? or am i losing it? :)

im sorry i worded the initiol question very badly yes battery cut of switch is what im on about im sorry :)
so am i right for the battery cut of switch ?
i would rather a hidden switch instead of one of these big red key things

i just wanted it to look and act as normal as posisble so if i handed over the car to someone else to drive i want them to think its bog standard

so actualy thinking about it i dont want a battery cut of switch i only wnat the actual battery to th eignition on a switch lol soryr im confusing my self here now
lets start again

i would like my barrel to act as normal so when you turn it everyhting normal happens such as steering lock off electricity on but no ignition UNLESS a swithc has bene thrown in which case the ignition will work

so in theory i could leave the switch on with out it meaning that the radio and lights would all stay on

dose that make sence?

thats sort of what i wnat but that would cut all power to the car untill i put it in i would like it so you could turn the key to get the radio on and stuff but you would have to flip the switch and then turn the key more in order for it to turn over

maybe i could have a switch after the barrel so when you turn the key all the way it sends out the electric but its stoped by a switch and then when the switch is on it lets it through yet that would still require the key to be turned to start

woooooooooooo i think i cracked it
now all i need to find out is how much power is sent when the ignition start is on and what type of switch i could get which would hold that power back and not fry when it let it through

so instead of the switch being before the white wire comes out of the barrel it needs ot be after it would this work ? like the third circuit diagram here but the switch will be totaly after the barrel on the white wire

PMSL so i was right near the start i need to put a switch in the white wire. grrrr

im sort of thinking it through my self when i write these messages
but now i have come to

a switch on the brown wire in order to cut all battery power
and then a switch on the white wire after the ignition barrel

1=this would mean if both switches where off no power would go anywear

2=if switch on brown wire is on but switch on white wire is off the lights radio and so on would work but car wouldnt turn over.

3= if both switches are on the igntion barrel will work as normal and it wouldnt be noticable that there are any safty devices on the car whith out some one telling them.

all i need ot do is try it

i presume a normal air craft switch will work fine for both of these switches?

Hi guys i know there is a thread on hints of how to make your car harder to steal which breifly mensions this topic but can some one please point me in the direction of somewhere that i can buy or/and show me how i can fit a device that you have to put the key in as normal to start the car but in order for it to turn over you need to press a starter button ( which may be hidden)

i have a 1997 1.3i mini

i will be very greatfull thanks

you say you have a '97 mini, theres no need - your car has one absolute b****rd of an immobiliser to hotwire - so chances of someone stealing your car and driving away are pretty slim. if someone wants your car, then they will just hiab it onto a trailer then strip it later, its happened to a few people i know and theyve fitted all sorts of devices.
best one is a steering lock or something really visible to stop the opportunist theif, although the flashing red light does a good job as i park my car in some really rough places and no one touches it (although seeing a few empty shotgun cartridges on the back seat probably puts them off!)

an imobaliser is very easy to get around although i think what i said above will be just as easy maybe a battery cut of switch somewhere hiddon would be the best bet. actualy that will mess with the imobilliser and alarm ohw ell i will think of something thanks for your help guys iv learnt alot

you can fit a battery cut off switch, but if you fit an inline fuse between the 2 terminals, and fit a fuse thats powerful enough to just run the alarm so if someone tries to start the car, they wont and the fuse will blow. just an idea

so would i then just have to replace the fuse and everyhting will work as normal ? will the alarm and imobbiliser need ot eb re set or will they be fine
so put in somehting liek mini misison said http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=36489
