Is it a good idea to do both sides at the same time?

For the price they are, I always do both sides. Most stuff in the steering/suspension setup is best replaced on both sides at once.

Its MOT time and found this useful but i checked the Haynes for torque settings for the castle nuts on the drive shafts and 255NM!! where can i get a wrench that does this? the only one i can find is halfords £85. is this a decent price for one?

Its either 60 or 150 ftlb depending on the model of the car.

255Nm seams way too high. I think 150 ft lbs is only around 200 Nm. I have a halfords 1/2" torque wrench and that is able to do them tight enough. I know  that it only goes up to to 250Nm maximum.

Let's be clear torque setting for front castle nut and then align to next split pin hole
Drum 83Nm (60 lb ft)
Disc type
With multiple split pin holes in driveshaft 207Nm (150 lb ft)
With single split pin hole in driveshaft 255 to 270Nm (188 to 200 lb ft)

Shameless plug, but there's a step-by-step in the next Minimag, which is out a week tomorrow. We noticed so many bearing failures at the IMM we decided we needed to get it covered.

Fair enough then. My haynes manual only lists the 60 and 150 ft lbs ratings.
