Thanks for the post Flat6. I did not include in my last post that several people I asked about the two pistons reported a specific shortcoming of the 21251 pistons. According to them, the 21251s have a reputation for "coming apart" when pushed to high revs on a high-compression engine. This is hearsay from them, I have no experience with the 21251s.

As I mentioned, I'm running the 21253s based on recommendations I received 5 years ago. I'm happy. The only shortcoming I noted during the re-assembly process was that the ring end-gaps were wider than I expected. I contacted Keith Calver about this. He felt that since my engine was strictly for the street the ring gaps I observed would be OK. I did note during a recent leak-down test that all the leakage I measured appeared to be around the rings and was a higher value than I expected. Nonetheless, I'd use the 21253 pistons again without question.

UPDATE!!!

Finally got Harriet back yesterday after 3 weeks with Bill Richards! This is what he's done:

re-bored to 1330
Piper 280 Cam
11 Stud Comp Head with Bronze valve guides
Duplex Timing

...and loads of other stuff I don't understand. He also fitted on the PlayMini exhaust I got.

It's like having a new car! Didn't realise it would be so loud - my ears were bleeding after half an hour. It pulls so much better. I'm so happy!!! Well, I was until I got home and the "better half" said that she hates it (even more) and wants it rhubarbing gone.

:(

Paint job is next - start that in a couple of week's time...
