Just out of naivety, how does the 1071 block differ from the 1275 block? Is it just the tappet chest covers?

All cooper s blocks are the same, the 1071 and 970 blocks are merely skimmed down versions of the 1275's' block. Whilst i say that, its worth saying the 1071 actually came first, so it was the first ever big bore A-series, and its what you owe your 1275's too :) The 1275's' and 970's' came after it.. then the normal 1275 was developed after that.

All of the 's' motors have tappet chest covers, and the majority have blanked off fuel pumps. As far as i'm aware they are all stamped AEG151.

Its just standard 1275 blocks that are different.

so £500 for the 1071 block and crank. Thing is, it was in an unknown condition, so i bid £460 but chickened out after that. Seems reasonable price, maybe a little too high from what jetblick was saying given that the crank is potentially unusable.

mk1leg, would be interested in you block also.

most of the cranks around r buggered. Grass trackers steal them to use and destroy a bit of mini's history every season. Most 1071 cranks have journals the diametre of a hair

haha, a man of my own mind! I'm all for gettin young'uns into motorsport, but thraping a 1071 round an oval in second gear for however long is such a waste!
