Might be an alternative to use? Also, Saxo's use electric pumps as apposed to belt driven ones.

"At the Ken Wharton memorial Auto-test anniversary event in mid 2007, there were, as usual, many competitors from Eire, running rings round most of the UK mainland drivers. However, most of the Irish Mini competitors had power steering fitted and quick racks. The steering kit was mostly from Vauxhall Corsa-type cars, with the electric power steering motor crammed in, within the cabin, just below and above the parcel shelf. The Irish are known to be brilliant auto-testers, but the addition of power steering and one-turn-lock-to-lock (almost) was the key to their overwhelming success at this event."
Power steering also used to be retro-fitted to Minis when they were adapted for disabled drivers, most were of course also automatics.
For donor info the Mk1 Bini's also use electric pumps as apposed to belt driven ones but the Mk2 Bini now uses fully electric power steering like the Corsa and most other small cars.

Hi all, i know this is an old thread, but i thought some of you might be interested still. I have fitted an MGF epas column to my mini. It was really easy mechanically to do. I cut the mini column about 8 inches from the bottom and welded it directly to the end of the MGF one, with a sleeve for extra strength. Then i cut the front of the mini pedal box which allowed the motor to sit up behind the dash. I then welded a bracket in the original position so it attached the the dash rail as normal. The beauty was the column switches fitted perfectly around the MGF column. The mini ignition switch also fitted the column with just a small hole needing drilled to secure it with a tiny screw. I bought an MGF steering boss from EBAY and also found a billet alloy boss on EBAY. i got these machined and bolted together. A mountney wheel then attached as normal. The coulings needed a bit of playing with to fit but again not to bad to do. As yet i havent got it operating as i am struggling to get a loom from an MGF. I have been told the loom is separate from the main car with only 5 or 6 wires needing cut to remove it. I have included a link below, scroll down to the bottom and see what you think. Quite a neat fit. The only issues i forsee is the system needs an engine speed signal and road speed signal, as its speed sensitive. Im sure some electronics wizz could easily sort this. If anybody knows how to do this please let me know. I am happy to help anybody with how to do the mechanical side. I also have the wiring diagrams of the system and how to put an over ride switch in it to disable if necessary.

I have the MGTF fitted to my mini pickup. It works very well. I am also running a K series engine so the wiring was v easy most of it was in the engine loom anyway.
Good luck getting the wiring done.
You can just the column on this pic:

thats class, although the corsa steering units are known to overheat and fail from when i was working at vauxhall so they arnt amazingly tolerant!
Alot of people fit them to rally cars , especialy the Mk1 and 2 escorts and its bit of a best solution. They work well enough and theres plenty of them about is one was to fail

I have 3 Minis and all three of them I have fitted Power steering to. I just love the comfort.

It's been a while since I promised my dad to fit power steering to his mini. Maybe I should give it a go now.

I'd like to add power steering to my mini, not really needed but it's a nice little creature comfort to not need to wrestle with the steering wheel.
