lol later on next year then when my 2 year ncb comes throught, I dont even dare get a quote now.

the car has to go in the mean time, and as I will be rebuilding the engine very soon... would be nice to get some resonable "modern" performance from it.

+ Im not a dare devil on the roads... but I think it would bite anyone if a chav in his over weighted pooper scooperd corsa left you for dead

then the fact I do alot of motorway driving and I cant imagin sitting in the slow lane with HGVs towering over you is a pleasent exsperience, ied sooner be out at 70-80 in the middel or fast lane flowing with the speed of other traffic.

In all honesty, when looking at A-Series tuning, you only have a couple of options...

Crusier, Street Racer, Town motor.

and as rule of thumb of engine building... choose ONLY 2... Proformace, Reliablity, Cost

you cant achive 12 seconds 60, 70-80 cruise, decent mpg and reliable from a 1275 then? without spending more than about 1k?

Taffy seems to think its possible?

Can I ask why you are set on having a 0-60mph in 12secs?

In all honesty, yes it can be done with a 1275, BUT it depends what final drive it has. For decent crusiablity, and good MPG to suit, you'll need to look at a 2.7 or a 2.9 final drive ideally, but alas, going that low, will take longer to get to 60mph. But having more power will quicken that time, hence the talk of 1380s etc.

I've just built a 1380, with the cam I am using (Sw5-07) Swiftune have had reports of on average, around 35-40mpg. My engine is built for torque, and cruising, but I've used a 3.1 final drive, so hopefully, this will give me the best of both worlds. Nippy in town, yet can cruse nicely on the motorway

12A28orB********* hope its not leaded lol! because i stuck some unleaded in there the other day! hang on! thinking about it! if u put unleaded in a leaded what would it do!? I think somethings just clicked!

Edit: Wire brush reveals... 12A2B6 ******* can anyone shed any light on what that mite be?

Doesn't exist in my book? Saying that, I'm looking at a Metro Haynes manual!]

If you put unleaded into a leaded engine, the valves won't be kept cool by the lack of lead. You will burn out a valve eventually. My Metro is leaded and runs ok on unleaded, just looking to convert the valves and seats for harder ones. You can get exchange heads for under £200.

Dam so what I have isunt a Metro 1275 unit, thought I was close there... so whats the fan, air intake and cat doing there then...

The reason I ask about the leaded and unleaded fuel, is because... shortly after putting some unleaded fuel in, the engine started to struggle to pick up revs if I planted my foot down (this was in nutural) it would almost stall in away then pick up, but if I advanced slowly on the throttel it would climb okish if not fine.

I didunt let it bother me (as I was planing to rebuild it befor it happend, and the cars not on the road)

I'm sure someone asked this exact question recently and I'll answer exactly the same,

Ive got a stage one 1275 (A+ with Hif38) that sits at 75-80 all day long and does sub 10 sec 0-60s.

You don't need crazy engine mods to get your 1275 to perform like what is essentially 'run of the mill car performance'. With that you'll beat most things off the line, because of your weight advantage. It just depends for how long.... I'll hold a Fiesta off for ages, match an MX5 and a Boxster will pull in front after about, ahem, a second.

And of course as soon as you come to a corner you've got the upper hand. But I've now digressed into childish shenanigans so I'll shut up

Oh and I forgot I regularly commute Romford - Liverpool. Last time I checked on my dad's trip computer when he followed me up, the journey I do is about 225 miles and I use about 25 litres. Fill up at Tesco and it costs about £24. And I drive between 75-80 most of the way.

Sometimes to amuse myself (and others... mainly kids in the back of an Astra who go past wide eyed and gawping) I go faster than 80, but I don't like triple digits, and it's only for a very short space of time.

I also usually let off some steam by driving full on out of the toll booth on the M6 toll road, and accelerating quickly on the exit of service stations, of which I normally stop at 3.

These figures also include the mandatory traffic on the M1 in the roadworks. Sometimes if I get stuck next to a chav we have a 'who's exhaust is louder?' competition and that may eat up an extra litre or so of petrol.

In short, you need my engine.

lol

if its done properly, good headwork, and a cam, will get the car to how you want it. cruising at 80mph for miles every week wont do wonders for the engine life, but as your changing it that doesnt matter!

either way, dont worry about matching the mini to other cars, it will feel a whole lot faster and more enojoyable than any modern thing to sumarise, my 100bhp mini doenst FEEL slower than a friends 220bhp coupe.

just stay out of races!!! then youl convince yourself your minis miles faster than anything else
