I tried to work out the wiring for the stereo via google, but could only find pay-per answer sites, so I guessed it. Easy. I now have music and as soon as I've fitted the aerial, It'll be all Smokey and The Bandit!! Again this is all temproary as when I have a new dash reaady to go in I'll be fitting a decent stereo of some sort. I'm torn between fitting an amp with just an on-off switch and a volume control for iPod only action, or a decent head unit, I'd quite like one with a hard drive in it really, but I don't even know if they exist??
When I'd done allt his and decided to go and watch the football I noticed that the gear lever was at a funny angle. To cut a medium length story short; I've lost the roll pins from the gear selector somehow, No idea how as I've not driven anywhere, but at least it didn't happen while I was driving!
I also tightened the u-bolts on the stering rack and fitted a harness so I'm nearly road legal. I think I just need to sort out the air filters, throttle, choke cable, and then fix the dash illumination and I'm ready for MOT. OH and those damn roll pins!

this is one stunning car. Would love a minus one day. When are you gonna get it MOTd by. Loadsa progress by the way, it's really good to see you just getting on with it, rather you than me with all the wiring issues tho.
Sam
Thanks Sam! I'm going home for Christmas next weekend, so I want it MOT'd next week, paid on friday, tax on saturday vrrrrrm vrrrrrm! That's the plan, we;ll see how it goes! I'd honestly rather do wiring than anything else, all it is is making circuits from the battery to a component, via a switch and back to the battery. If something doesn't work, just run another wire, you don't even need to find the fault! The only bit that really wore me down was working out what all the wires in the back of the dash board did, that took a while and there's still one mystery red wire LOL!! Everything works though, so I think the red wire is something that I re-wired along the way.
When I get my new dash I'll be making a new loom for the dash that will contain all the switches, relays, fuses etc, then a single connection block that connects to all the car wiring, should make the wiring a lot easier to cope with in the future!
Anyway, on to today's update........
I popped down to Moss in Manchester yesterday and collected some new gearbox roll pins, jacket Jason up into the sky and soon got the missing pin replaced. The old pin was just sat under the gearbox and looked fine, dunno why it popped out, but there you go! I thought there were 3 pins in the joint and I also thought that they were all doing the same job, so to disconnect all of them had to come out. So was pleasantly surprised to see that there were only 2 pins and only one had dropped out. Bonus.
I finished attaching the throttle return springs, popped the filters back on (ish) and cranked him up. He started, ran for 30s then died, but he was just missing a bit of choke - really should connect that up - got him started again with the choke and held it open a bit to get some heat in him. He idled at about 1000rpm, but that climbed to 2000 rpm once he no longer needed the choke, so that problem still needs sorting.
At least the new throttle cable has solved the sticky throttle problem!
Once up to temperature I was happy to see that Jason likes to sit with his temperature gauge dead in the middle, good boy!! I decided to celebrate sorting out his insurance by driving him around my yard a bit, he enjoyed himself! I gave the engine a little stick, it does sound bloody good and shoots round to 7000 rpm without much asking

Having had a good look under the car tonight - normally you can't see anything as he's so low - I'm in two minds about the exhaust. He doesn't have an LCB manifold and the main pipe isn't as wide as the exhaust on my last car. I can't help thinking that I'd rather have the sound form my other exhaust too. On the other hand, this exhaust is custom and is lifted into Jason's belly as much as possible, so offers better ground clearance and because it's custom made, no one else has quite the same look. Would also be a shame to remove a brand new system, so I guess I'll keep it! At least for now.
Right, tea time I think, later I'm going to fix my indicators by running the feed from the hazard flasher into them, I was using two flasher relays and separate power supplies, just because of the way the wiring evolved, but fitting the radio has knocked the power feed from the fusebox to the indicators out and it will be easier to change the wiring than to start messing around with zip-ties to get the stereo out to fix it!
I'm also going to try and sort the dash illumination bulbs and Main Beam warning light, that shold just leave the engine idle speed as the only issue to sort for MOT!
Does anyone know the MOT idle rev speed limit? Is it just listened to by ear? If it is, should I disconnect my rev counter before the test - the engine sounds lower than it it!
Cheers!

I believe the idle speed can't be 'excessively fast'....

It's a 4 cylinder rev counter, with no switch to change it. It's one of the smiths old-skool ones. While we're on the subject, it's bloody cool! lolSure the rev counter isn't set for 2 cylinders or something, and it is actually idling at 1k?

What would you call excessively fast? Sounds a bit subjective to me, I don't like subjective, it's rarely fair!!

Not sure if your carbs will have them but on my carb (HS4) theres a screw to adjust the idle speed - is there not one on your carbs?

There is, it's been played with already, will play again soon, but it's screwed out as far as possible already I think. Will be leak testing the carb soon, though it looks ok!

See if you can spot what's new:
Yep that's right some big ears!
I'm very pleased with this ebay purchase [item number 180193388688] £67, can't fault them!
The only problem I have is with the mount:
2 problems; I need to tidy up the door skin and paint from where the last mirror was attached and I need to put the second screw in. I can't decide whether to just drill another hole and fit a self-tapping screw or to use the bolts that were supplied with the mirrors and drill right the way through the door.
Advice please!
Anyway, that's all for today, I might put some better photos up when my new camera arrives; as much as I love my Sony DSC-T7 for being ridiculously small, it takes C**p picture in low light! When my Nikon D80

Next job is to rebuild the carbs I think!

Might be a job for a rivnut?
Yeah, maybe, I'm just wary of attachingt hem in such a way that might damage the doors if they were stolen, also looking at £20 for the tool to do the job too, which would probably come in useful int he future, but still.
Anyway, my girlfriend thinks his ears are a bit big and thinks he should be called Dumbo! Oh dear!

could be nice to cut out some carbon open weave plate and just cover the area with a kinda teardrop shape? rather than sanding down n spraying where the paints buggered? Very hard to get a good blend with those metalics.
that sounds like a pretty sweet idea!

Jason has no carbs now, one is in bits by the kitchen sink and quite clean, the other is waiting for the same treatment. Hopefully when they're rebuilt I'll be able to get them to balance and a nice low idle.
WHen I took them off I noticed that the pistons weren't sat at the same height in the mouth of the carb - any ideas why that would happen and what the best solution is?
