I'm about ready to throw £1500 worth of computer straight out of my window, so if anyone can help me, they'd be saving me alot of money! ...
I've got a problem connecting my iMac to the internet...!
When I open up a web-browser, it'll take 5 minutes to load a simple page! So, I presumed this was something to do with the servers over at the Uni that I'm networked to.
I've run the diagnostics on the connection and it is apparently working fine!
So, I cleared the cache and private data, etc....
It's still loading slower than my old dial up.
However, I waited an absolute age to load this page, and tested the connection:
Weird!!
And I've just tested the internet on my PC and it's working flawlessly!! Same network point, same bloomin' cable!!
My question is:
Where's my internet going!? Between entering the Mac through the cable and using it on a browser??
Thank you!

Oh, and I forgot to mention:
I deleted the connection and re-connected it, and it still doesn't work!!
And I'm running OSX 10.4.1

SCRAP THE MAC
Sorry bean
have you googled it? If someone else has had this problem, they might have reported it, which usually comes up on google.

What browser are you using? Safari/Firefox/Opera...think they are the main three for the mac....

All of them, lol
Not one of them works!
It was fine this morning, working perfectly... and nothing has changed, as far as I know, and this evening it's just been a right pain!

Lol,
Thought I would check that first.
Could be a firewall issue, or a virus that limits your net speed.
What kind of ping do you get to the mac? Should be pretty low.
This might help...
However, there may be a few things you can do to speed up your page rendering in Safari. First, the most common cause for slow page-rendering in Safari is the autoforms/autofill functionality. It's a great and handy tool, but as that autofill database fills up and grows, Safari slows down. You might try clearing out some (all?) of your saved data in the Autoforms tab in Safari's preferences.
Also have you done any updates to Jave recently? This used to affect the speed when I used my mac...or any updates in general lately.

Um... I'm not sure what a 'ping' is
But it came up with 33 (i think) <--- I hope that makes sense?

Ok, 33 is pretty low so its a browser problem most likely.
Um, only thing I can think of is any updates or clearing everything.
I'll think about it more and get back to you although im not near a PC for 24hours from now..
Sorry I could't help more.

Thanks DP
I downloaded that last week - hurrah for tabbed browsing finally on Safari!
I give up tonight... I have the mother of all virus scans going on at the moment, fingers crossed it doesn't find anything!!
I'll try again tomorrow.
