any threads for herWell - We moved Nora today, from her little home that she's lived in for 2 years. Well, I say home ... she's been parked on the gravel outside the front door! (I know, I know)
So, this is what she looked like before we started:
Her paintwork was as flat as a pancake
K has done a full service on Nora - And I've given her Reggie's 306 Diesel battery.
A fresh few litres of fuel and ...
She fired up straight away!![]()
I took her for a drive up our farm lane and she's absolutely brilliant - Smooth changes, great timing, she's just amazing!
But her brakes are interesting!!![]()
DRUMS!!
And, as for the paintwork ...
Well - That wasn't flat for long!!
Though ... I think there's a bit of jealousy going on
Silly Minis![]()
A good day's work, in all

Unfortunately, she made it down to SMD last August... 12 hours, 21 breakdowns later. She then went home with Pikey7, when she broke down 12 times, where he did a lot of work on her for a week. I then took her home (broke down 4 times). A lot of work later, she was supposed to go to Reading... Broke down a mile down the road. Since then, she has been on the driveway... Can't figure out what's wrong with her!!

I'd just blame it on Mike

Today, we decided to start to attack the floor! Along with the front, which you've seen - There was this, on the inner sill..

Upon more invasive inspection, we found that it's clearly been there for a long time ...!

Mmmm, filler

So, we made a patch out of the floor panel. This should cover the rust, but also replace some of the floor that has been damaged by idiots jacking him up ...

I then, started to cut the floor, ready to fit the panel!

However, in doing so, I manage to get my index finger in the way of the cutting disc.... and sliced right down across my knuckle .. !!

So, I'm just sitting inside at the minute, having a medicinal cup of tea and trying to type whilst bandaged up!

The welds are not perfect, to be honest - We're having massive problems with it blowing through the metal. No matter what speed feed, it still does it - And it's on the lowest setting. It's mostly my fault though, I think - I'm still a bit nervous & still trying to make sure I get it all in the right position - I do sometimes miss where I'm supposed to follow - But I think it'll come with practice. Stupid thing is, when I did a few practices on scraps of metal today, I did pretty well!
So, not sure what's going on, really.
So - Anyway, I ran a seam of weld along the underside of the floor, too - Just to make doubly sure that it is strong. This worked out a lot better - And penetration was pretty consistent - So I'm pleased with that really.

There's a couple of areas where it's blown and needs sorting (and there are bits that are totally unwelded as yet, as we were tacking it in as we went along, trying to keep the shape of the floor and blend it in as much as possible, but I ran out of wire & I have to go to a birthday meal for my sister - So had to stop

Massive thanks to Mr K, today - He's been amazing!

How quickly are you moving the torch when welding? Try adjusting the wire feed in tiny increments. I've found you can blow through when the wire feed is too low as well as when too high, if you don't feed in enough metal to fill the pool, it'll make a hole.
Keep at it, you'll get it gooood

I always double weld my seams on both sides where access is possible, inner sils, flitch etc, strength is everything for me on this car so agree with you all the way there!!
Not easy to explain but it works for me. Keep at it.

Well, I tried to vary it - It seemed to blow if I went too slow, so sped up and it still blew. Then just did a couple of blobs quickly, and it still blew!

Graham:
Thanks! I know exactly what you mean - I think as long as it's strong, you're OK. Obviously, I'd like them to look good as well and I hope they will as I go on and on with it - But at the moment, I'm pretty pleased with how it all went on the underside of the car - No holes & penetration.
I'll keep plodding on and hope it'll improve with time & practice!

Cheers, guys!!

Stupid Screwfix website! All I want to do is place an order for collection tomorrow... but I get all the way to the checkout and it comes up with a "technical error". I won't be able to get the welding wire tomorrow now and they're not in stock!
