They decide if the fault is something you sould have been keeping an eye on or not. Bald tyres and blown bulbs for example you should be checking for regularly, split CV gaiters not so much. Also if it's something you've intentionally done like rearrange the appearance of your numberplate there is no excuse. Especially if you swapped it back for the MOT.

Apparently you can request to defere the roadside test. They will issue you with a ticket to to be shown at the local Vosa department along with proof that at the time of the road side test, the vehicle was 'legal' (original current MOT certificate) along with a new Test certificate.

They cannot fine you if the roadside emissions are not a million miles away, what they do here is issue you with a ticket to get the vehicle repaired within 14 days, and provide proof at the local Vosa department that it has been repaired (new MOT certificate)

Either way you will be required to have the car Re MOT'd.

If the vehicle fails the test with flying colours, its a fixed penalty fine!

Everything is electronic now so they know everything about your MOT, Tax and Insurance. Big brother is watching!!
