Well i have been a busy boy and have aquired a 1275 engine on the subframe with everything for my auto-manual conversion. I collected it the other day and the person i bought it off had a engine crane to get it in so it was all easy.

But

now i have to get it out of the back of the car >_< >_< i dont have a engine crane and i dont really intend on buying one
or hiring one. (i dont have the space for one and hriing one will be a right pain in the uhum for me)

It looks really really really heavy and because the subby is all complete and everything its hard to place your hands any where to lift it.

I had a plan of lifting it down onto a creeper and wheeling it away.

Does anyone have any tips on how to lift it and where me and my brother should lift it from ?

Don't lift it if you can hang it off something: jack the car up; tie the engine up; lower the car; drive it out of the way.

I am really thinking of taking the engine off the subframe but the driveshafts are still connected and reading the haynes it says i need a ball joint splitter to disconnect things at the hub end ??? Can i not just take off the driveshafts off from the engine so i can lift it off ?

Or i was thinking of jacking the sides of the subframe up, putting some wheels on it and try wheeling it down two planks of wood ?

But then it has to go up a 2 steps and sideways into the garage  (that is if i get my way and get to keep it in the garage)

Nope, you can't take the driveshafts out without splitting the balljoints. Its, say, an in built safety feature which means a driveshaft can't just pop out whilst your driving along!!

The complete package has got to weigh in at nearly a quarter of a ton! It may require 3-4 blokes to lift it out, but can you get each guy in a position where they can lift it effectively? Ethel's idea sounds like a good one, but make sure whatever you tie it up to can take the weight.

For all its worth I'd just rent an engine crane for a day or two. My local tool hire place is cheap enough to deliver and collect too!

The other way would be to slowly dismantle it in the car.

Me, a mate and another guy lifted mine into the back of a fairly small car. It was fully laden with oil and had all the bits attached, hubs etc.
It was immensely heavy though. Youll be able to do it with 3 people minimum

you can split the top ball joints with a hammer, which allows the hubs to fall outwards and the drivershafts to be removed. given space?

Else it's probably an engine crane or hoist,

dissassemble it. Ull want to look throughout the engine anyway. Take the head off (15kg gone) and just start ripping. Then u can clean n rebuild the engine. Just an idea, tis what ii would do.

I havent got any tools with me as my toolbox is lying in my brothers garage

I dont know what to do, i might try jacking it up and putting wheels on it so it is at least mobile. Its all lying inside a mpv.

I need to get it out now
