a metro 1 and a half to match my alloy inlet,
also changed my split rims
for some 5x12 alloys cause the archers on full lock are too low, and take chunks out my wheels.
anyway,
changed the carb,
wouldnt start prior to this change,
but now the car wont fire.
changed the coil, and dizzy and still no fire.
going to check all the leads tomorrow, as its possible a loose wire is about, but its all been taped up,
anyway,
Im going to try and leave the Timing chain for now, try and get the car running ok, with it.
really have no room to change it without taking the engine out. (sure you can, but its not that easy too do)
it does need changing. but not major just yet. still runs just not great.
so If it has to come out, rather save up and wait for a 1275 to go in,
but the dizzy isnt a lucas, forget the name, and the cap didnt fit well either was a large gap in it.
thanks for all the help guys.
sorry If it doesnt seem that im not listing, I really am.
I'm still learning myself with Mini's this is only my 2nd one I own.
so dont want to do too many complicated things on my own.
cheers for the help though

Make sure you have the right cap on and the wiring is good to the condensor stuck on the side.

Check all vaccum tubes and point gap.
1. have you got the correct points fitted Blue or Red? Remove points and check condition of surfaces.
2. Replace the condenser.
3. Set the static timing
4. Set the dynamic timing to 8 degrees vacuum off. While doing so, try to find a diz position that allows revviing.
5. Spray wd 40 onto carb intake garkets, listen for rev change..regasket if necessary.
6. Check cylinder compressions or have them checked.
7. try to find or use the old su 1.5. turn the mixture right up (anticlockwise) then twelve flats clockwise out.
8. Replace the coil.
CHECK the wire which runs down the centre of the car's underside. You might have melted it with the Stage one exhaust.
Best of luck.

power is getting to the coil, and power to the dizzy.
there is no spark, it has new points but I think maybe the condenser is buggerd, but thing is... why would this go on two different dizzy's?
it had the Ducellier distrubiter in there, and put a lucas one on,
this was working find so no reason for the condensor to go... but yet still no sparks.
engine turns over, and petrol is getting through,
tried the centre dizzy lead against the bloke to check for a spark, but nothing.
its a real wierd one today :/

Have you got the washers correct when putting points back, I'll try and find an easy diagram..still trying to start it

take off rocker cover and man turn engine over till both rockers @ no1 cyl are rocking (no1 is rad end) this is fireing stroke
take off dizzy cap and where rotar arm is pointing mark block with a dot of white paint put cap back on and loosen dizzy clamp and turn dizzy till no1 plug lead on cap is opp white dot and retighten dizzy clamp
this should give you correct timing
put rocker cover back
make sure petrol is filling carb and you've got spark at plug
try and start if you've got (1) fuel at carb (2) spark at plug
good luck ...................

well after a long day, no luck, car just would not spark... then did... then didnt.
I knicked my dads electronic ingition, dizzy and soloniod. from a metro on his 69 mini,
and well...
put that on, and BAM! started first time, idle'd and sat at 1000rpm.
kepted it running, then adjusted it alittle, tooked it down the road and wow!
the mini has been as best as its ever been with the Timing still out. (never be perfect without taking the chain off)
its like a new mini, I can put my foot down and it wont die on me!!
drove up to 75 no problem, and went along at and upwards to 6k rpm fine.
got my other wheels on there, and feels nice handle wise, but I loved my split rims so come summer I try and put them back on.
Shall see when I drive to work tomorrow how different it is. but its been a long long weekend.
need to do lots of thank you's and need to save some money now incase I get these problems again!

Satisfying to solve this kind of problem...What about your Dad's metro?
Well done, now don't bend it.
na it was a metro engine but it was in his 69 cooper. (which is off the road at the mo)
he needs to fix the clutch and has bits allreay taken off it, but yea...
Have to keep a eye out now for parts so I can replace them.
