Yeah - he sounds like a neddy know it all to me. I know of a fair few bike engine cars and I don't know a single one that's had a fatal engine failure.

like i said i dont know if it was true
but he actually did seem like he knew quite alot
he works for a race team in the radical race series

i dont know if he ment it will be a bit safer doing a rebuild after 40 hours to save the engine for a longer period

but saying that my boss used to race in the hotrods (one season at national level and the rest of the just local, but he did go holland once for it) and he said he did a full rebiuld every 16 races which is like four meeting

ok i would suggest working out how long it would take to do say 15000 miles at an average speed of 70 mph that should give you a rough guide, though i have seen r1`s with 30000 miles and not rebuilt. Our race car has been on the rev limiter all season and still sounds great.

get your calculaters out regards rob

Ah !! Its amusing on here somtimes

214 hours at 70mph to cover 15000 miles, so let me think for a minute..that would be 428 hours to cover 30k ..

Lets face it guys, the Japs build things to last. These engines really are over engineered, most people that buy big bikes do so because they want to go FAST!! So they all get thrashed !! I've had 8 bikes over the last twenty years, the smallest a zxr750 that rev'd to somthing silly and the latest being a Ducat999r Tuned by monstermob ......Never had a single engine mechanical failure ever!

Dont ya just love em

What, not even the Italian Ducati! Only joking. I also have owned many bikes and still do and i've never had a engine mechanical problem. I have read articles of people getting over 100,000 miles on their fireblades and R1's with the original engines and they are still going strong even though the bike itself is knackered. Thats over 1400 hours. I think it will be ok at 40 hours eh!

Ha.. Nice one Tommy.

I think we made the point on how reliable the engines are.

I knew some fellow biker would pick up on the reliable duke issue. Had it for three years and the only thing that ever went wrong was a wire wore through and blew a fuse so it wouldnt start, ever tried to bump a high compression V twin??

100k on a blade...blimmey.

Nice one mate.

Hilty
