Just a thunk, following on from Jeff's very reasonable 'n gracious response.

i'm sure those with a particular speciality in a certain area of Mininess would love to contribute, but the problem is knowing when their input would be relevent. Why not use the likes of TMF to elicit some interest for up and coming articles? We could maybe have a quiz followed by a healthy punch up if there are any disputes of the true answers...or a photo competition to gain some hard evidence?

A quiz might be dangerous! A few years ago my local club put on a Mini specific quiz, and I think I scored 97/100. I'll be arguing those three wrong answers with the bloke that wrote it for the rest of time...

Of course it's not always down to me, but if there's valuble contributions and useful information to be had we'll happily seek information from those who have exceptional knowledge in specific areas.

where those three questions;

1. When will Jeff get his mini(s) on the road?

2. What is the top speed of 998 auto??

3. Will Jeff be flying from MITP to the nurburgRING (one for your anal jokes) to join up with bh2nretro2008?

1. God only knows. But the Sprite has done 1400 miles in 5 days!
2. God only knows. I'm too scared to go above 50 mph with the oil light taunting me.
3. Pass!

I do have an idea, but would need to get this confirmed...

If TMF could find a 'complete, original, unmodified' Mini that we hadn't covered, then (theoretically) I cant see why you could contribute. It would need to be to a word count and include extra boxes of information, but if you could find the car and write the article to spec to deadline then I see no reason why not. Again, no promises, but I'll have a word to the boss.

Like Jeff said, we havent done the Minus yet... but would you be up for that? What originals do people have?

Here's what we've done

Mini Cabriolet
Elf & Hornet
Mini Sportpack
Mini Clubman
Mini RSP Cooper
MkIII Mini Cooper S (70-71)
Mini 40 Limited Edition
Mini Cooper MkII
Mini Sprite LE (1983)
Mini Cooper 35th Anniversary edition
Mini Italian Job (1992-3)
Mini ERA Turbo
Mini Ritz LE (1985)
Mini 30 LE (1989)
British Open Classic (1992)
Park Lane (1987)
Mini Chelsea (1986)
Mini Advantage (1987)
1275 GT MkI (1969-1974)
Paul Smith (1998)
Mini Moke
1959-1960 Mini
Innocenti Cooper 1300 Export (1973-1975)

Well the Mainstream Mini Cooper isn't on that list above, so you could always do it again if you really want? LOL

Or how about the Mini Super because I know someone who owns 3 of those early 1960's top spec beasties and they influenced the trim that got used on the original Mini Cooper?

I have a Minus! :D I MkII, but seeing as they are pretty much a kit car, I'm not sure how 'original' any one shell could be?! Plus I've just cut the inner wings out of mine to fit my Z Cars subframe (*cough*boast*cough*).

My german mainstream model had a factory-fitted oil cooler, no logo on the inlet duct and clear glass.

I do apreciate though, that people like Anorak share their knowledge on here, be it anal or not.

yes, it's supposed to have the clear glass, would of been pointless putting tinted glass on the options list if it didn't :D

As ANORAKISM spreads: No - this was actually a reason for complaint back then , as german mainstreams were supposed to have tinted glass as standard equipment.

Well the Germans did get Sportspack Minis long before us, with models like the Mini Silverstone.

998 Super Deluxe Saloon ought to get the treatment as there must've been more of them over a longer time than any other. lots of scope for disputed facts :D

ha ha, does that mean i got it wrong then :goaway: but seriously, if you do have any more info on the German spec mainstreams, the mainstream register would be more than happy to hear it, the link is below my signature.

(The Anorak- last seen running for the hills :D )
