Talk about spotting this at the last minute - last time I have a few days off to fix my Mini, lol!
Like Craig says, we're not adverse to constuctive criticism - anything that helps us to improve and deliver the goods is most welcome. We're still quite a new team in many respects and there's room for improvement in all of us.
We are very aware of the problem at the mag, and have taken steps to ensure these errors, within reason, become a thing of the past.
This is not an excuse by any means, but somethimes mistakes can slip through the net. Personally I have only written one buying guide - on the 1275 GT which I consider to be my expert feild. Even so, I wrongly said the voltage regulator on early cars is on the inner wing rather than the bulkhead. Trivial maybe, but still frustrating from my point of view.
As well as a buying guide, these features are intended as a keepsake on particular models and we want to ensure there's something for everyone. They're not just for special edition cars - if we could find a mint 79 City Auto, we'd cover it! As such, the information can be very difficult to source. In most cases the info is out there, but there's not always a club we can turn to for every model, and as has been rightly pointed out, there's a lot of conflicting information out there. For example, I once owned a mainstream Cooper with an oil cooler, sunfoof and half leather seats, none of which were standard features. The original owner swore it had never been modified too - it turns out these were RSP parts retro fitted by the dealer!
Mitigating circumstances aside, we'll do our best to make sure this doesn't happen again. In the meantime, if anyone knows of a good standard car we've yet to feature, get in touch.
Oh, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with being anal IMO!
Cheers
Jeff (Minimag)
again another truly respectfully response to my criticism's, i think that if this post has proved one thing, its that the mini mag team know how to take it on the chin.
well done guys, keep up the good work, and believe it or not i genuinely mean that. i fully take on board your points about not being experts on every model and that you may sometimes actually be quoting other peoples mistakes. i actually now look on your jobs with a new found sympathy, no I'm not doing a u-turn on my views, but i can now see it from the other side of the fence.
maybe we should all try a little harder to work together on theses type of things in the future, maybe the specialist groups should come forwards with the offer of assistance
It is down to reviewers & readers alike to point out these oversights, and it really seems to be people like The Anorak who do bother to put pen to paper or finger to keyboard to right these wrongs, but it is invaluable that they do.*
*However dull & anal that makes them appear.

cheers Juju
and as for the cars that do contradict the "true spec of the model", these are down to mistakes on the production line and/or dealers retro fitting bits for one reason or another, there are loads of these out there (we even have one mainstream on the register with an RSP engine !!) but they do not give reason to start re-writing the true and generally presented spec of the models.
it's common knowledge that many cars actually left the factory with the early style of minilight alloy on one side and the later style on the other, this doesnt mean that that's the way they intended it to be
PS: where do i find my personalised emotion then
