I think you still need to display a plate if you're parked so they could still knick you for that.

I do take Big Dan's point.. still it would be fun down the Magistrates court trying to explain how you managed to get cow poo on both plates on Holloway High Street

I generally don't have a problem with traffic wardens but guess they don't have the same leeway to use discretion like a proppa coppa.

well i was parked on a single yellow line for about 10 minutes, knowing i couldn't park there but as everyone does at some point, i thought i'll only be quick, it'll be ok! anyway when i came back to my car there is one of them smart cars wiv a huge CCTV camera on the top of it, don't know weather it was facing up the road away from my caar, or down the road towards it, but if i do get a ticket does anyone know around about how much it will be?

Alex

they are taking reg plate and will issue a parking ticket. had same thing happen to me. dumb thing was, i parked up, turned head round, saw the cctv and thought they were watching the road. cost me 100 quid in the end as they "apparently never recieved" the payment in time so issued a second penalty.

thought it might be that! i was parked off of havering road, take it you know it? so it will probably be a £50 fine if i pay it in 2 weeks right?

You'd expect someone representing the council to behave reasonably and respectfully and equivalently but that's all gone out of the window up here.

A Kirk, whilst I agree with what you say and many a time have I been in your shoes but be careful what you say to the wardens. Rumour has it that the local ones around here now have a dictaphone type thing in their uniform, as soon as you start giving them abuse they push a red button (next to or maybe even on their radio) to record it all. Blows away your chances of an appeal really if they have evidence of you being threatening etc. Of course you could always kick the poo out of them whilst commenting on the cleanliness of their uniform and how great the weather is

By the way, with the exception of when they've got you on camera (i.e. smart car cameras) the ticket HAS to be on the vehicle for it to be valid. If they've printed it off, even if they've put it in the envelope if you drive off and they don't get it on the vehicle it's NOT VALID. So it's pointless standing there arguing, if you can get away, get away quickly so they don't have chance!

I know it's not valid because a few months back I drove off when a warden had written it out and I saw him preparing the envelope... funnily enough I saw him later that day and he approached me and said "do you want another one" =] he then said it will be in the post to the company I work for... good luck with finding the right department then by post because it's hard enough trying to get to speak to the right person on the phone! Nothing ever came of it.

Dear oh dear I've gone on another rant about parking wardens! :dontgetit:

as long as you DONT pay it by cheque. do it on a card as its instant. remember a cheque takes a further week to clear.

NMew parking rules come into force very shortly, and the ticket no longer has to be placed on the offending car.

I'm sure it starts end of this month

Did you know its only a £30 fine for no number plates or covered plates? Compared to a parking fine which is £120 within central London?

Don't mind me I HATE traffic wardens, whilst I agree they also have a job to do, but so many of them have no common sense.

I think the best one is having to block a busy road off to unload, as your not allowed to put any wheels on the pavement, now commons sense would say ok let the delivery drive put 2 wheels on the pavement(allowing access for people) and allowing the road to move freely, but no we can't do that. So what happens you block the road off, because you know the police and the traffic wardens won't bother you.

Since parking has become so bad within the likes of London, I've had to inform all clients that unless they can provide somewhere legal to load/unload then they either won't be sent a van or they are responsible for any parking tickets.

Don't worry about offending me, I don't take offence to anything, as we all have our own views

"The law states that you must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers. Offenses may result in a fine of up to £1,000!"

i would asume that hiding your plate or not having one would come under this to be honest, and the £1k posible fines a bit more hefty than the £30 you mention
