An update...

I went to my local mini place today, he has an MPi, so I could talk to someone face to face who knows...

he's said that there are different modes for the alarm, different timeouts before it sounds, also, a mute alarm...

mine seems to be muted... the alarm doesn't sound but the immobiliser works fine...

with the alarm armed, if you open the door the little light stays on constant, and the engine wont start... here, the engine should be sounding... i'm wondering if this is where my different light flash pattern is coming from...

Any experts???

Cheers

Tom

I think you meant alarm not engine.

Anyway, maybe it's just a dodgy connection between the horn and the immobliser or possibly a blown fuse.

The irratic flashes when you arm the system is a warning to tell you to replace the fob battery. It happened to me and then I changed the fob battery and it was fine.

the indicators dont flash with the system, the rover ecu is cappable of doing it but for minis it was not programmed to do so.

Early ones dont, late ones do :P

bringing this thread up because I cant seem to get the immobilizer to stay syncronized with the fob. I put a new battery into it and if I press the lock button 4 times like it says in the manual I can get it to work, but when I come out the next morning I have to do it all over again....very annoying. Its also doing the same thing with my spare remote.

Any ideas?

Ok, I think I figured out what is wrong with my system. Saturday, I went to the post office to mail some packages and when I returned to the car it refused to recognize my fob. walked over to the grocery store to get a new battery, even though the one in the fob was a month old. Put in the new battery and it didnt do anything, so I sat there pressing the buttons for about 5 minutes and then suddenly it deactivated and I promptly drove home. Grabbed the spare fob and resynced it to the system and finished my days errands. I called a guy here in the states that has the equipment to recode the fobs and immobilizer and he suggested that it might be a problem with the fob itself and to have a close look at it. When I had some time, I opened up the fob to examine the internals to which I discovered that one of the battery prongs had cracked and separated from the circuit board. I soldered it back on and presto, its working properly again.
