on the subject of car ad music...

The new Focus advert has an orchestra playing a piece of music. Is it just me, or is it the theme tune to Johnathon Creek!? :)

I actually quite like the new Jag.

And the music that goes with it, and my first thoughts were Deep Purple when I heard it (admittedly though I didn't realise it had been covered :) )

the XF Rocks! mainly because its launch has paid mine and 15 colleagues wages for the last 4 months. :)

The Music for the campaign is a re-mix - we have it on DVD in MPeg4 format for playback at the events...............not that I've copied it or anything :shifty:

heres the original and recent version - you can see where the re-mix has been dropped in for the add

Ilz5SxrHA3E

here's the original so you can see how even the mighty PURPLE have gotten old and sold out............... :shifty:

for the record, I think the re-mix is definately based on the Kula-tastic version. slowed down and bass amplified to closer match the original.

The XF is gay and blatantly so. As is every Jaguar that was built after the XJ6 series 3 or XJS.

Take a look at the list:

XJ40 - Ugly and square. "New" XJ's - Fat, and squinty eyed. X-type - Mondeo Ghia. S-type - Ford Thunderbird with an overbite. XK8/XKR/DB7 - XJS in a posh frock.... the Jag should have kept the V12 not the Aston.

The XF is another car in a long line of trying to "update" Jaguar, which will in fact kill it. The vast majority of people who buy these already have a classic Jaguar and are buying a new one to use daily. The problem comes in that they are straying away as the traditional look and feel is gone.

Look at the Concept cars. The XK180. The F type. The R type Coupe for example:

That's what a Jaguar should be like. Its all in the details. That's what the XF would have been. But Ford will never let them build to their full potential.

And what the hell is going on with the badging lately? Leaping cats facing backwards on the car, and the "growler" on the grille looks like a lobotomised tabby instead of something that is shortly going to disembowel you....

As for the adverts, this one isn't bad. The "Gorgeous" campaign sucked. The one before with Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" as music was cool as was the old "Art of Performance" with the leaper rising out of the water with its eyes lit up.

I disagree, very few people have actually got their XF yet, theres a 3-4 month waiting list and it was only launched a week or two ok, so I'm not sure how you've made this assumption. Jaguar are going after the BMW 5 series market with the XF, not the classic car owner, I know a few people with newish jags, yes they might have owned an old Jag a few years back, but I don't think any of them currently have a second old Jag on their drive.

I agree with this! If Jag only released one of their recent prototypes, they look fantastic! I'm looking forward to Jag being released from Jag ownership, but not if it goes that that Indian company.

Yea, the adverts suck, but the rest of the marketing is actually very good. Their mailshot for the launch was brilliant.

I personally think Jag having been doing ok, the cars they've produced have fitted in well in their intended markets, my only criticism being that they've lacked a bit of an edge in the looks department. Personally I dislike the front of the XF, looks a bit American.

The XKR and the XFR are beautifull cars though, and both have had rave reviews.

I'm not specifically talking about the XF, poll the classic Jag owners and see how many have a new Jaguar of any type. Other than that there are always going to be a number of people that like the car just for what it is, then there are the rep types that buy a Jaguar for the badge.

As for the market, to aim purely for that which exists and is filled by the 5 series BMW, seems strange. To persude existing customers of Jaguar to get the new car would be a better bet. You tend to find people are very loyal to their chosen marque.

As for Jaguar being sold to TATA in India, rumour has it TATA has a buyer for Jaguar and is just looking to acquire Jaguar /Land Rover as an entity.

Time will tell on how well the XF does. I won't be after one... I think I'll stick to the classic stuff!!

Regards

Ric

That's odd...it sounds exactly the same as the Purps copy I have from the original album (which also sounds different to that Youtube vid)!!

So is it;
a. a remix of the Mk 1 Deep Purple cover or
b. a remix of a cover by a different band or
c. something else entirely that just happens to sound like the DP version???.......and if it is, can I have a copy please?!!!

Edit...have now spent time listening to a variety of versions by DP and KS.......the ad seems to be a mix of them all.....I stand corrected!
Whatever....I love the song!!

I don't know the music but that new Jag looks dreadful. Looks like a ford :)
