because I once took a trip to Brighton and whilst there I saw a giraffe the cones aint turned up man! Not the best news, but having the R1 TB's made up for it a little so i can now start measuring up to get some trumpets to fit and get some silicon hose on the way to attach them to the fanimold

Well was supposed to be, but it arrived today and the spacing was about 15mm out >_<. Can't really be bothered to send it back to be perfectly honest. Will probably cut about 3/4" off it and use 50mm hose to the TB's. Didn't think the price was too bad at the time, but seeing as its not spaced correctly made it a little expensive. Still better than a standard modified inlet though, and gives me a good pattern to make one out of stainless in the future.

Pics in a bit

Mock-up of the TB's on manifold:

As you can see it sticks quite a way from the head, because of the funny angle on the hose because of the spacing. Chopping it down will make a vast improvement though.

Sorry for the dark pics - need to fix the light in the shed >_<

Got my S/S plate and stainless tube today to make the new inlet manifold, as the one i bought doesn't fit for a start - but if i get it to fit i still wouldn't be 100% happy with it.

Tried cutting the inlet holes myself, but i'ts not gonna happen really. Nothing i had could do 10mm stainless plate!!

Also stripped the oil pump and checked tolerances and look OK to re-use. Oh yeah, the block is stripped too back to its bare guts. Got an early XE crank on its way to me which is meant to be lighter (also has no wear!!). Next on the list though is a full gasket set and a BIG load of ARP bolts.

My early XE crank turned up yesterday - MINT condition, better than my '93 crank, and it came off an '88 engine! The early XE crank's are 1.5kg lighter, and i proved that on the bathroom scales :D

Should be getting hold of an early flywheel too - again much lighter than the later type. Also on the lookout for a set of ACL shells for mains and big ends, not too expensive either. Head wise - set of madder cams, new followers, general clean up and a bit of port modification. Should give me the best of both worlds when its all bolted up, with the stronger early internals on a later stronger block. The only downfall is it will still have the horrible cast pistons, but will sort that out at a later date with a re-bore and some 87mm pistons. Won't be doing that yet though as a set of pistons are near on £450!!

Been back on the inlet manifold today, nearly finished a template out of some 1/2" ply, which will then be sent off to get cut out in the 10mm stainless plate. Used 45mm O/D stainless pipe instead of the 2" I bought previously. 45mm is about spot on for the head side - but the OD of the TB end is 2", so will have to get some silicon reducers or summit. Also doing it this way will allow me to add in the water bypass on the head, which can cause heating problems on XE's, which is not great news on a KS head, as they are known to go porus and pee oil into the waterways . For that matter, i may even end up doing the KS head mod so its as good as the cosworth / coscast head.

Should get more done at the weekend.
