They shouldnt be allowed out of the slow lane on the motorway. That would solve most problems.

Maybe that should apply on dual carriageways where they block both lanes for five minutes having a 56mph battle, but on motorways? Don't be stupid. Thats why theres three lanes. People don't cut truckers enough slack - you'd soon moan when theres no food in your supermarkets, no post, no clothes in the shops etc.

And as for the blind spot on LHD trucks - I always though it was common sense as well. Saying that, it doesn't seem to matter anyway because the foreign trucks on the roads dont seem to use mirrors or indicators nearly as much as british drivers.

1st lane - 60mph
2nd lane - 65mph
3rd lane - 70mph

They should be the limits for each of the 3 motorway lanes. Thus trucks/HGVs should stay in the 1st lane. Although it would be hard to implement the 'law'

there isn't enough space on the motorway for all trucks to stay in lane one, you would have a queue from London to Manchester

thats the silliest thing i have heard. if they all went at a constant speed there wouldn't be any problems.

And thats the silliest thing I'VE heard. Don't know if you realise, but some trucks are faster than others. One with an all up weight of 40 tons is going to be slower than one with an empty trailer. And upping the limit is just going to mean it will take the nice trucker man a bit longer to stop those 40 tons ploughing into your car when everyone slams the brakes on on the motorway. The rules are like they are for a reason.

i SAID A CONSTANT SPEED. doesnt matter if some are faster, i said the same constant speed. if you keep hgvs in a lane to themselves like i said then it would work
there will not be bloody jams though just some trucks travelling at different speeds (-/+ 5mph), not the biggest difference is it.

So what when all your imaginary line of HGVs travelling at the exact same speed as each other come up behind a really slow load, like a crane doing 30? They all slow down behind it because they can't overtake?

anyway, getting back on topic and ref to the original post, there are some bloody big lorries on our roads and we drive very small cars,so a little common sense and forward thinking is all we need to remain safe and get to where we are going in one piece!

1st lane - 60mph
2nd lane - 65mph
3rd lane - 70mph

So in your case then there will be no lorries on the motorway as they are limited to do 56 mph. How can you only have one lane for lorries ? Its the silliest thing ive heard. Lorries need to overtake each other as some lorries carry extremely wide and heavy loads and are stuck at 50 mph or even 45.

Freight should be moved by trains as it always used to be.

And if it was moved by train then you will need twice as many lorries to move the same load.

One lorry to take the load to the station and then a second to take the load from the station to the place its needed :closed:

30mph cranes on a motorway, thats what would cause accidents id think.

Are you for real? Have you never seen a big load on the motorway? Like a train, or a 200 ton crane? Those things are HEAVY. They physically can't move at 56mph. I'd hazard a guess that they aren't ALLOWED to do 56 either. What I'm trying to say is that your idea is utter nonsense. And you seem to be the only one who hasn't realised it yet.

I would say they can only manage about 20-25 mph

i have seen some moving eg big boats and massive dump trucks

they travel real slow and some of them even are escorted by other vehicles such as motorbikes

Vehicles unable to maintain a minimum speed of 20mph are not allowed on a motorway except under special circumstances, (escort etc)
We should all be aware that some vehicles may be travelling slowly, if every one reduced their speed on the motorway by about 20 mph then there would be less hold ups.
