As for the Mode; One the UK's most underated bands. For once the Americans had proper taste when they took them to their hearts. Dave Ghan=God
I think going to America and doing the 101 Tour was the making of Depeche Mode.
I was really into them in the early 80s and had seen them a few times at small venues but they got to the point where they were playing places like Wembley arena but the electronic music didn't really suit those huge places. My tastes changed and I got into more goth-punk so I stopped following their music. A few years later some friends got tickets to see Depeche Mode at Crystal Palace and had one spare and as The Sisters of Mercy were supporting I decided to go along but I wasn't too fussed about seen Depeche Mode.
How wrong could I have been, The Sisters were quite frankly rubbish, but when it Dave Ghan came on to the opening cords of I Feel You and stood with his back to the crowd with his arms stretched out like Christ on the cross, I thought, "Oh my god, they've changed". It turned out to be one of the best concerts I've been to and it was great to see how they had developed. I have been buying their albums ever since.

No offence taken Anorak, your balenced, well considered comments always ad a touch of spice to a thread. Were you more of a Simple Minds/U2 kinda guy or more Whitesnake/Poison?

nope never really like any of them either. like i said, big numan fan (but then you either love him or hate him), clime fisher, nick heyward, duran duran,
Aha, erasure, lightning seeds, M-people, blur. (forgot OMD and Human league)
also like a bit of David Essex and neil diamond

EDIT: i guess this is turning into a bit of an 80's anonymous thread. in my defence, i guess you have no real control over what kind of music you like. you either like something or you don't. a bit like how you are attracted to certain types of people. fascinating if you want to get geeky about it

Well I've just put Songs of Faith & Devotion on the turntable & turned the volume up really high. "I Feel You" is the first track on and it's dedicated to THE ANORAK.
