Similar kinda concept, in that their social and dress characteristics are largely influenced by music.

For an oldie... look for somewhere between mod and goth.

Music tends to be dark, about sad topics/love/hatred.

Google ftw

yeah it kinda is like mods and rockers of modern day. emo as you mightve guessed stands for emotional something, most probably emotionally depressed! basically a stereotypical emo is one who wears alot of black and a lot of black eye make up, even if its a bloke. theyll have quite long straight black hair as well that will sweep down covering half their face . they listen to emo bands too such as my chemical romance, and get cape wear cape die, and other whiney light indie/rocky type things. i suppose you could say they are a bit like your stereotypical goth but soppy and depressed and without the attitude, and with different tastes. also kinda a goth cross indie whos become depressed.

or if you watch hollyoaks, newt and his annoying accomplace are stereotypical emos

Dont forget, stereotype also is for tight jeans and a liking for self harm due to depression/needing love

You could confuse him even more by continuing and saying there is also a "scene" genre

Which is a bit like emo

Ahh I see now, thats what I kinda thought, a goth that went wrong...
Does it make me an emo if I do listen to some music such as Eliot Minor?

I am mainly a dance music fanatic, but I do stray to the more "rocky" side sometimes. I just like uplifitng, fast-ish, real get you going type tunes... but then, I do have a soppy side, and like the classicy lovey type tunes too

Thankfully, I don't dress like that - although think my hair needs cutting before I get classed as "emo" its getting a bit long lol.

So if theres emo, whats the opposite?
